The Art and Culture Commission will review the submitted proposals and select designs during a public meeting on September 8 at 12:30 p.m. Residents, neighbors, and other interested community members are welcome to attend the meeting at City Hall Council Chambers and provide public comment on the proposals before the Commission makes its selections.

- Proposal deadline: September 3, by 11:59 p.m.
- Art and Culture Commission Meeting: September 8, 12:30 p.m.
- Painting period: September 12 through October 31
- Stipend: $300 per planter

The proposal requires artists to submit a full-color concept, displaying all four sides of their proposed design. The City will prepare and prime the planters and provide the final protective sealant for the artist to add. Artists provide their own painting materials.

Have you seen the new mural at Dock B by the Wharfinger? The mural was recently completed by participants in Uplift Eureka’s Job Skills Training Program, with guidance from local artist Lucas Thornton!

As part of the program, participants take part in City Beautification projects, gaining hands-on experience working as a team in a professional environment while building their resumes, developing job-ready skills, and contributing to our community.

The Job Skills Training Program was recently launched by Uplift Eureka through funding from a Caltrans Community Cleanup & Employment Pathway (CCEP) Grant. The program provides participants with vocational training, field experience, teamwork opportunities, and guided support throughout the job-search process.

🎨 The mural project at Dock B is one example of how the program creates opportunities for participants to gain valuable work experience while making a positive impact in Eureka. We’re excited to see what they accomplish next!

You can find more information about the program by visiting www.uplifteureka.com. If you're interested in learning more about the Job Skills Training Program, please call 707-571-8412.

Today, the City of Eureka was honored to welcome a delegation from Chiayi City, Taiwan, to City Hall for a meeting with Mayor Kim Bergel and the signing of a Proclamation of Friendship.

The proclamation recognizes Eureka and Chiayi City’s shared desire to develop civic and people-to-people connections and officially establishes our communities as Friendship Cities.

The City is grateful to our friends from Taiwan for visiting Eureka and to the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) for its ongoing leadership in building international educational and cultural connections.

Humboldt Bay Fire Fire Chief, Tim Citro, even brought a firetruck for viewing! We all were impressed by how heavy all the equipment is!
