Ian Ross, a 2025 Marquette High graduate, was part of this spring's graduating class from Midwest Line College in Indianola, Iowa. He passed his CDL exam/license, entered into the apprenticeship portal and, because of his high test scores, was allowed to direct entry into a four-year apprenticeship!

He will be assigned to a job in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota or Wisconsin - while returning to Indianola every few months for continuing education - with plans of becoming a journeyman lineman after his apprenticeship.

Ian began taking electives at South Tech during his last two years at Marquette, and a visit from a lineman made him excited to go into the field. His family reports that he has never been afraid of heights growing up and would even climb the 25-foot tree in the back yard. Way to go, Ian!

Marquette High hosted a unique guest speaker last month: Dr. Jesse Kavadlo, English professor at Maryville University and scholar/performer of rock music. Dr. Kavadlo read excerpts from his book, "Rock of Pages" - which analyzes the thematic connections between '80s heavy metal and classic literature - and played alongside one of Marquette’s student rock bands, Fretbuzz.

Westridge Elementary was recently certified as a Project ADAM Heart Safe School, recognized for demonstrating strong cardiac emergency preparedness through awareness, training and a practiced response plan!

“At Westridge, our Heart Safe School designation is proof that we are ready to respond to adult and pediatric cardiac emergencies,” said nurse Angie Midnight-Oest. “In a cardiac emergency, every second counts. Having a plan and running regular drills allows us to sharpen our speed, lock in muscle memory and test our communication systems in a no-pressure situation — ensuring that if an emergency ever happens, our delivery of life-saving care is seamless, coordinated and immediate.”
