Lafayette High junior Benson White earned a perfect score of 36 on his ACT, joining the fraction of 1 percent of students who achieve this feat! White is a member of the Lancers golf team, enjoys studying math and computer science and hopes to attend Brigham Young University.

DID YOU KNOW? Effective Aug. 28, Missouri drivers who pass a stopped school bus while children are being picked up or dropped off will face tougher penalties under Senate Bill 1421.

All drivers who fail to stop for a school bus will now incur five points on their driver's license. Fines for a first offense can range from $500 to $1,000 and may include driver’s license suspension. If a child is injured or killed as a result of a driver passing a school bus, the driver faces felony charges.

This summer, Lafayette High student Skyler Windes was nominated by her teacher, Sarah Scerba, to attend and represent Lafayette at the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and Healthcare at UC Berkeley!

During the eight-day program, Skyler engaged in discussions and education on the various components that make up the field of medicine, from phlebotomy to biomedical engineering to medical ethics. She attended lectures and discussions from various experts in their respected fields, from a thyroid surgeon to a nuclear medicine specialist, and toured and experimented with a state-of-the-art nursing simulator at California Northstate University, experiencing what it would be like to treat an actual patient. The final project required the program's scholars to collaborate to design and present an effective diagnostic and treatment plan for a case study involving a victim of an automobile accident.

Rockwood Summit High science teacher Sarah Moonier is one of seven finalists for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) State Teacher of the Year award!

Moonier and her fellow finalists will be interviewed by a state selection committee composed of former Missouri Teachers of the Year and representatives from educational organizations across the state, and the new Missouri Teacher of the Year will serve as the state’s nominee for the 2027 National Teacher of the Year. DESE was at Rockwood Summit on Tuesday to interview students and get video of Moonier teaching for a piece that will be shown at the Teacher of the Year Banquet in October.

Ridge Meadows Elementary counselor Sydney Basler and Crestview Middle Academic Stretch teacher Vicki Mikow each earned a $500 grant from the Missouri Retired Teachers Association Foundation (MRTA-F)!

The MRTA-F awarded grants to 84 classroom teachers and 14 support staff members for 2026, funding materials, supplies and projects that prioritize innovative teaching projects and student-centered learning activities.
