A Red Flag Warning has been issued for interior Humboldt and northern Trinity Counties. Isolated to scattered dry thunderstorms are possible Friday morning and afternoon, which has the potential to start new fires. Gusty winds from thunderstorms may cause rapid fire spread.

CAL FIRE Humboldt–Del Norte Unit Suspends Burn Permits in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Western Trinity Counties

As of 6:00 AM, Monday, June 15, 2026, all residential outdoor burning is suspended in State Responsibility Areas of Humboldt, Del Norte, and Western Trinity Counties due to elevated fire danger resulting from dry fuels, warming temperatures, and limited precipitation.

Campfires remain allowed in designated campgrounds and on private property with proper permits, but must be constantly attended and fully extinguished when not in use.

✔ Clear vegetation within 100 feet of structures

The Six Rivers National Forest is seeking public input on proposed recreation fee changes at select recreation sites.

Revenue generated from recreation fees stays local, helping fund site maintenance, infrastructure improvements, public safety projects, and enhanced visitor experiences.

Even with the proposed changes, 66% of recreation sites on the forest would remain free of recreation fees. The forest will continue to have no entrance fees and no day-use fees.

The public comment period is open through September 15, 2026.

Six Rivers National Forest’s favorite owl had the pleasure of attending Community Service Day at Washington Elementary School!

Woodsy Owl spent the day talking with students about how each of us can help care for our public lands. From packing it in and packing it out, to picking up trash when they see it, students learned simple ways they can make a big difference.

Woodsy encouraged kids to get outside and explore the incredible forest right in their own backyard.

Most importantly, Woodsy reminded everyone to “Lend a Hand-Care for the Land!” And for those who grew up in the 80s and 90s, you may remember his classic message: “Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute!”

The best part? The students even gave Woodsy a pinky promise that they would help take care of our forests, parks, and public lands for generations to come.

Thank you, Washington Elementary Otters, for inviting Woodsy to be part of such a special day!

Folks were reeling in memories on the Carson National Forest back in 1959, proving that fishing on national forests and grasslands never goes out of style. Last week was National Boating and Fishing Week and we want to see your photos of fishing on the Six Rivers.
