The Distinguished Secondary Teacher Award (DSTA) invites graduating Northwestern undergraduate seniors to nominate high school teachers who have had a transforming impact on the lives of students.
A selection committee made up of Northwestern faculty, staff, and students; chaired by Eugene Lowe, Assistant to the President and Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies, reviews the nominations and requests teaching portfolios from nominated teachers for finalist consideration.
A small group of finalists are interviewed, and the committee recommends five outstanding teachers to President Schapiro for this recognition. Winners of the award are invited to participate in Commencement exercises in June. Each teacher honored receives an award of $5,000. The winning teacher's high school also receives an award of $5,000.
A little bit of your time can make all the difference to someone changing students’ lives every day.
Please send any questions to [email protected].
**Students that submit their nomination before the early deadline of November 25th will be automatically entered into a raffle for Northwestern gear or a $100 Amazon gift card.**

You can visit Northwestern DSTAward for testimonials from previous winners.

“We ask that as a student body, we remember that Black lives matter not only today in the midst of tragedy and horror, but always.”

As Northwestern’s Associated Student Government, we condemn the murder of George Floyd, and we are prepared to advocate for the support of our Black community-members at all times. Please read this statement to learn more about the steps we are taking to create an environment where our Black students are safe and valued at all times.

Black lives matter.

Note: We apologize for neglecting in our original post to name the death of Tony McDade, a Black trans man who was killed earlier this week during a protest. We stand in solidarity with our trans community and the intersectionality of trans and Black identities. Black trans lives matter.
