Evanston Non-Profit Spotlight: Levy Senior Center Foundation
The Levy Senior Center Foundation was created to provide funds to the Levy Senior Center to enhance its programming, offset expenses and improve the facility.
The partnership between the Foundation and the City of Evanston enables the Levy Senior Center to sustain its first-rate programming and facility.
The Foundation offers free cultural experiences with two music series, a lecture series, aging well programs, free theater tickets and writing workshops through community partnerships. We pay for improvements to the Center, underwrite events and much more!
Foundation programs help Evanston-area older adults remain active, independent and connected.
Services: For more than 50 years, the Levy Senior Center has been providing outstanding programs and support for thousands of older adults in our community. The Evanston, Illinois center is a recreation facility that offers countless opportunities for seniors to participate in leisure, educational, health and fitness programs for people aged 55 and better.
The Garden Café, Rothschild Gardens, and an active calendar of classes and events help make the Levy Senior Center a place where older adults can gather to socialize, meet new friends, engage in programs, classes, and concerts. In addition to weekday lunches and bus service, the Levy Center offers referral services that provide information on a variety of issues affecting older adults, including free dental screenings, flu shots and safety seminars.
Gifts to the Levy Senior Center Foundation (LSCF) support the enhancement of programs and services offered at the Levy Senior Center. The LSCF also provides financial assistance, through Dennis Newton Scholarships to seniors who otherwise could not participate in programs like Senior Day Trips.

MYTHS IN AMERICAN HISTORY: THE FICTIONS WE LEARNED AND THE TRUTH BEHIND THEM
Tuesday, May 13 at 1:30 pm
Via Zoom

All countries tweak their national stories to make the past easier to explain. Ordinary people, too, sometimes shape history to their own perspectives. Historian Joyce Haworth will explore the role of not-quite-true stories in American history. She will discuss some longstanding “myths" and examine why they have had such staying power. She will also give you some reliable ways to test the things you hear, and get at the truth.

REIMAGINING MAN OF LA MANCHA: A TIMELY TAKE ON A CLASSIC STORY
Tuesday, April 8 at 1:30 pm
Via Zoom

Northwestern University’s Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts presents a bold reimagining of Man of La Mancha, running Friday, April 25 to Sunday, May 4. Set in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center, this powerful adaptation brings new urgency to the classic tale of Don Quixote, as detained migrants from around the world perform his story of idealism and resilience.

Join director Henry Godinez and dramaturg Phoenix Gonzalez for a thought-provoking discussion on this innovative production, presented as part of the Levy Lecture Series via Zoom on Tuesday, April 8, from 1:30-3:00 pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore how a beloved musical has been transformed to reflect today’s world.
