The Citizens Network of Protection invites you to an educational presentation to educate our children on shoplifting prevention in Illinois. Your collaboration with CNP is vital in ensuring our children know how to avoid becoming thieves.

The individual who captured the incident on video shared it with one of CNP's Board Members. CNP's Outreach Committee tries to contact the individual for more information. CNP feels that the community must unite and let the young teens know they do not have to worry about being humiliated and labeled as thieves.

If we believe the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child," CNP has stepped up and said we do not like the stigma of being a thief on young teens, and the investigation shows that they had not taken anything. The store manager was wrong about what he thought that the young teen had taken some of their goods. The store manager needs to apologize for embarrassing them in the place of business, plus barring them from the place of business. We understand this incident's impact on the young teens and are committed to letting them know that we are beside them and will help them with any legal action they want to take against the store. There is a way for the store manager to handle their suspicion of an individual that would not have embarrassed them or made the store manager look like he is a racist person. Our commitment to the well-being of the young teens is unwavering, and we will do everything possible to ensure their safety and comfort.

CNP is taking proactive steps to address this incident and prevent further damage. We are not worried about the source or where the footage goes. We are focused on working with the community and the retail industry to minimize incidents like this by educating young teens. Our responsibility is to educate them so there will be fewer incidents of this type. Our priority is to educate and build trust, prevent further harm, and ensure the safety and well-being of all those involved.

I visited the police station yesterday, and it was a stark contrast to the corner store I frequented when I first arrived in Chicago in 1969. Back then, you had to talk to the clerk behind a glass window with a hole in the glass to pass money and receive the goods. The police station, however, was a different story. The station was set up so you could stand at a desk as you talked to the officer behind the desk.

In 2024, I can't stand before the front desk officer. They have taken COVID-19 6ft distance here is taken to the extreme. I was in the police station in my hometown, Evanston, and I didn't think anyone would rob the place. It struck me, however, that the setup was more akin to a scared store owner than the community hub. The police department does not want to get close to the community; it only wants people there for a few minutes to ensure the community leaves soon.

There's no place to sit, no opportunity for interaction, just a cold, impersonal transaction with the officer on the phone to get an answer to why you visit the police station.

What message does this send to the community? Are the officers at the police station off-limits to the residents? Why is the police station set up this way? These questions echoed in my mind, leaving me perplexed and needing answers.

I sent out an email to the list of supporters. I am sorry I did not post it on Facebook as usual. The Declaration of Human Rights was influential in creating the CNP mission and goal statement that set our direction for the future work of the CNP.

"Hi there, I came across an email from our Vice President, Elizabeth Meadows, while creating a Season Greetings message for the Citizens Network of Protection. She reminded us that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is celebrating its 75th anniversary. In light of this, the Citizens' Network of Protection has decided to spread awareness about human rights by sharing articles and a short video explaining the significance of human rights in the past, present, and future. The Citizens' Network of Protection has also created the EPBOAT proposal based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other UN documents.
