SRD Schimmell is participating in the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office No Shave November to raise awareness for Men's health issues. Two of his Kindergarten buddies at Corpus Christi Catholic School thought it was a cool idea and joined him today!
Did we mention being a School Resource Deputy is the best job ever!

After every school Mass @ St. Joe, the students come out and try to give SRD Schimmell the perfect five. They can't leave until it makes the good "pop" sound! Little traditions like this are what makes being an SRO so special! Its about being a part of the culture and community of the schools they serve.

Impromptu nature walk on a Friday with Corpus Christi 4th graders and Principal Greaney! SRD Schimmell may or may not have stepped in a hole and almost fell. Of course if he did it was only to show the dangers of walking on uneven ground.

School is back and so is my 4-square crew at Resurrection. This crew has been playing every recess since the beginning of last year. If they're out and playing that's where you'll find me! Having said that here's an SRO Pro Tip from Deputy Schimmell...

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗞𝗮𝗺 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘀!

At this year’s Indiana School Resource Officers Association-INSROA State Conference, Deputy Kam Harris was named the Exceptional Service Region 11 Award winner!

Deputy Harris was nominated by fellow SRO Deputy Mike Brown, who wrote:

“Deputy Kam Harris is exactly what a School Resource Officer should be... In his two years here, he’s formed countless relationships with students and staff. Just spending five minutes walking around his schools with him, and you’ll see just how much his kids love him.”

Before joining the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Kam was an educator, and that background has helped him thrive as an SRO. His passion for connecting with students is clear, and his impact is felt far beyond the classroom. This year, he took on va**ng education head-on, creating and leading a new program at North Junior High that focuses on cessation, not just prevention, a bold, much-needed shift.

Because of his leadership and innovation, Kam is now helping launch a county-wide va**ng education initiative in partnership with EVSC (Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation), the Vanderburgh County Health Department, and the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office.

Also in attendance at the INSROA Conference EVSC Deputy Chief of Staff Katy Elmer, showing continued support for the strong collaboration between the school corporation and the Sheriff’s Office.

We’re proud to have Deputy Kam Harris on our team. Thank you for your commitment to the students and the future of our community. This award is well-deserved!
