At this year’s Indiana School Resource Officers Association-INSROA State Conference, Deputy Kam Harris was named the Exceptional Service Region 11 Award winner!
Deputy Harris was nominated by fellow SRO Deputy Mike Brown, who wrote:
“Deputy Kam Harris is exactly what a School Resource Officer should be... In his two years here, he’s formed countless relationships with students and staff. Just spending five minutes walking around his schools with him, and you’ll see just how much his kids love him.”
Before joining the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Kam was an educator, and that background has helped him thrive as an SRO. His passion for connecting with students is clear, and his impact is felt far beyond the classroom. This year, he took on va**ng education head-on, creating and leading a new program at North Junior High that focuses on cessation, not just prevention, a bold, much-needed shift.
Because of his leadership and innovation, Kam is now helping launch a county-wide va**ng education initiative in partnership with EVSC (Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation), the Vanderburgh County Health Department, and the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office.
Also in attendance at the INSROA Conference EVSC Deputy Chief of Staff Katy Elmer, showing continued support for the strong collaboration between the school corporation and the Sheriff’s Office.
We’re proud to have Deputy Kam Harris on our team. Thank you for your commitment to the students and the future of our community. This award is well-deserved!
