Clinics for self-represented litigants have been expanded during the Covid-19 crisis. For those facing evictions, collection matters, support modifications, or other pandemic-related issues, please stop by the DAILY IN-PERSON HELP DESK between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday located in the Vanderburgh County Law Library and speak to an attorney who will help connect them to the resources to complete their matter. Participants are assisted on a first-come, first-served basis.

VLP’s weekly in-person clinics at the Vanderburgh County Law Library continue to meet at the following times:

FAMILY LAW CLINIC (appointment required) on the first and third Thursday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

NON-FAMILY LAW CLINIC (first come, first served) on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The regular Talk to a Lawyer program remains available at the times noted below:

First Thursday of each month from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Third Tuesday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Low-income Indiana residents may also submit a question online to ask a lawyer for help with a civil legal matter by copying and pasting this link to open Indiana Free Legal Answers: indiana.freelegalanswers.org and clicking "get started."

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, our General Legal Clinics scheduled on Thursdays (March 26, April 9, and April 23) will not be held here in the Law Library. However, volunteer attorneys will be available by telephone on those dates by calling 812.618.4845. Phones will be open on the above dates from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for brief consultations.

In our archives, we discovered a written history of the Evansville Law Library from 1930. It revealed that on January 27th, 1894, the Evansville Bar Association was created for the main purpose of stimulating interest in the law library and procuring funds for its maintenance from membership fees.

The Evansville Law Library (original name) was organized and incorporated in 1892. For 128 years, the law library in this area has been through many changes but has remained an important resource for the area's legal endeavors.
