We are saddened to learn of the passing of our former board member, Lee C. Mortensen.

Lee’s father, Bruce J. Mortensen, played an integral role in Albion Fellows Bacon Center’s history. In the mid-1990s, Bruce served on our Board of Directors and helped facilitate the development of an annex that housed several of our offices, providing his expertise and services at cost. When Bruce learned that his time was limited, he asked his son, Lee, to continue his service to Albion. Lee graciously accepted, and we were honored to welcome him to our board.

Both Lee and his father served Albion with humility, kindness, and generosity. We were privileged to benefit from their leadership and dedication over the years.

Lee’s commitment to serving others extended far beyond his work with Albion. He was actively involved with numerous nonprofit organizations throughout our community, making a lasting impact on countless lives through his compassion and service. His contributions to Evansville and the people who call it home will not be forgotten.

Lee will be deeply missed by all of us at Albion Fellows Bacon Center, as well as by the many individuals and organizations whose lives he touched.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Albion Fellows Bacon Center is honored to be one of the six local organizations making up The Good Samaritan Home, Inc. Foundation's first grantee cohort.

Albion is purposefully different from other grantees in this first cycle, and we are grateful to The Good Samaritan Foundation for recognizing Albion’s ability to move the needle on housing instability through innovative partnership and meaningful investment in affordable housing solutions.

We're thrilled to receive $15,000 in program support from Good Sam to strengthen housing stability services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. This funding will enhance our flex funding program, providing immediate, flexible financial assistance for urgent needs such as rent, utilities, deposits, and other housing barriers. Because financial abuse is present in nearly all domestic violence cases, many survivors lack the resources needed to safely leave an abusive situation, making housing one of the most significant obstacles.

In addition to addressing these immediate needs, these funds will support housing navigation case management for survivors, helping them access and maintain safe, stable housing, as well as outreach and awareness efforts to ensure survivors know where to turn for help. By removing urgent barriers and expanding access to support, survivors can focus on healing and building long-term independence rather than short-term survival.

We are deeply grateful to The Good Samaritan Foundation for investing in safety, stability, and hope for survivors in our community. 💜
