It’s incredible how fast these little birds have grown. In a month they have gone from eating out of mom’s mouth to flying the nest. What amazes me is the follow through of the mother. For two to three months her life is nothing but warming, feeding, and repeating. Two months may not seem like a long time but it’s perpetual and she is perpetually following through with her commitment. So often we have things that are exhausting that we are committed to and it’s really challenging endure those commitments. The more diligent we are with our commitments though the more often they are successful. So if you are worn out of your job, kids, spouse, faith, or life in general I want to encourage you to commit your time, press in to your responsibilities because more often than not it will pay off.

What do you invest in? Many people think of money when they hear “invest.” We invest money to try and grow what is already there. So what about our investments in people, time, and faith? The more we invest the more opportunity we have to lose some of our investment but the more we also have to gain. When we invest with purpose we often see reward, just as Peggy invested her time learning to fly fish and in this photo she is reaping the reward. It doesn’t always come quickly but a bit of faith and diligence can yield great results. What do you need to invest in today? .the.wood.studio

This is one of my favorite sunsets. Yesterday we witnessed yet another atrocious act of violence targeting the innocent. Not only do those kids and teachers not get to watch another sunset but their loved ones now face a lifetime of memory and sadness in these same sunsets. Let me clarify a bit, emotion, memory, and beauty are all very closely tied together. When we hear, see, or even smell something we find appealing or beautiful we immediately think back to something that beauty reminds us of. I’ve always found this amazing that beauty and emotion are so closely tied together. Some of this is beauty helps us slow down to recognize what we are experiencing. This is where compassion and empathy stem from. I pray we can learn to come along side those who are suffering in recognizing the remaining beauty. I also pray that we could learn to become advocates for mental illness.

Last week I talked briefly about the brain’s ability to focus and are progressive loss of ability to focus on tasks for long periods of time. One of the suggestions to help develop this issue was to unplug. This weekend I got together with a bunch of great friends to have a weekend of fishing and unwinding. It’s amazing what good company does to our stress levels, so next time you are struggling to unplug think about calling up a few friends and spending a few hours or even a few days restoring your mind, body, and soul.
