On July 16 around 2:55 pm, officers with the Evansville Police Department responded to a local business following a report that an adult male had been assaulted and that his pickup truck had been stolen.
During the investigation, officers learned that the suspect allegedly fled the business in the victim's pickup truck. As the suspect fled, he allegedly drove toward a business employee at a high rate of speed, nearly striking the employee before leaving the area.
At approximately the same time, the Natrona County Dispatch Center began receiving multiple reports of a crash and hit-and-run on Interstate 25. Witnesses reported that a pickup truck struck the concrete median barrier and traveled over it. The driver exited the vehicle carrying a beer can and fled the scene on foot, heading south toward Casper.
As officers investigated both incidents and searched for the fleeing suspect, it was determined that the pickup involved in the Interstate 25 crash was the same vehicle reported stolen during the assault in Evansville.
The assault victim was transported to Wyoming Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.
The suspect, Adam Lacey, was later located by law enforcement near Nebraska Avenue in Casper and taken into custody without further incident. Lacey was also transported to Wyoming Medical Center for evaluation before being booked on the following charges:
Aggravated Assault
Reckless Endangering
Theft
Driving While Under the Influence (DWUI)
Improper Lane Use
Leaving the Scene of an Accident
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and traffic-related offenses that occurred on Interstate 25. The Evansville Police Department continues to investigate the assault, vehicle theft, and related criminal offenses.
The Evansville Police Department was assisted by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Casper Police Department, Natrona County Sheriff's Office, and the Natrona County Dispatch Center.
As with all criminal cases, the charges against Adam Lacey are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
