WATCH: Smoke alarms aren’t all built the same and EFD's Rescue 1 (B-Shift) is showing you why that matters in a way you can actually see in action.

In this quick demo, the crew breaks down photoelectric vs. ionization smoke detectors, how each one responds differently and what that means for protecting your home and family.

It’s not just “having a smoke alarm”… it’s having the right one (or the right mix) in the right places.

It’s been a busy few weeks here at EFD.

From three of our newest recruits reporting to their stations while the rest begin the EMS portion of the academy, to our EMS Division’s newest paramedics and EMTs working through orientation and skills training before hitting the streets in less than a month...there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

Add in every emergency response, training and community event in between...we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Enjoy your weekend, Evansville! 🚒

WATCH: CPR & AED Awareness Week: A great reminder that learning CPR can mean the difference between life and death.

Thanks to the American Heart Association’s training resources, this video demonstrates Hands-Only CPR on an adult female patient. The AHA provides additional instructional videos tailored for adult males, pediatric patients and multiple languages to help ensure proper technique for every situation.

Every second counts in a cardiac emergency. Immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. You don’t have to be a firefighter or medical professional to save a life, you just have to be willing to act.

Take a few minutes this week to learn it, refresh it or share it. It could help you save someone you love.

Let’s end the week with a friendly fire safety PSA...😄

Replace the batteries in your smoke alarms every 6 months and make sure your family has a fire escape plan, because working smoke alarms and a plan in place can give you and your loved ones the extra time you need to get out safely in an emergency.

…and don’t judge the firefighter yelling at you through the windshield until you roll the window down, he’s actually just really passionate about fire safety.
