Lieutenant Chris Roe, Deputy Nathan Espenlaub, and Deputy Troy Hardin spent part of the day at the Grand Opening of the new Health and Wellness Building at the United Methodist Youth Home.

The celebration featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, campus tours, a food truck, free snow cones, face painting, and an exclusive look inside the new Health and Wellness Building.

For more than 40 years, the United Methodist Youth Home has been dedicated to helping at-risk youth become responsible, productive members of our community. We were honored to join them in celebrating this exciting new chapter and the continued impact they make in the lives of young people throughout our region.

Congratulations to the United Methodist Youth Home on this milestone, and thank you for all you do to support local youth and families.

The River Patrol Unit was on the Ohio River today for its first patrol of the season, and the weather could not have been better.

With sunny skies and plenty of boaters enjoying the river, Deputy Dustin Botzum, Deputy Mike Schneider, Special Deputy Rob Henson, and Evansville Police Department Sergeant Mark Saltzman spent the day on the water helping ensure a safe and enjoyable start to the summer boating season.

The River Patrol Unit provides a visible law enforcement presence along our waterways while promoting safe boating practices and assisting those enjoying one of our region's greatest natural resources.

We look forward to another great season on the Ohio River. If you're heading out on the water this summer, remember to wear your life jacket, boat responsibly, and have a safe day on the river.

For four days, Vanderburgh County was proud to host the United States Police Canine Association, Inc. Region 5 K9 Trials, welcoming nearly 30 K9 teams from Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Ohio for competition and certification testing.

The USPCA Region 5 Trials bring together some of the region's finest law enforcement K9 teams for rigorous evaluations in patrol, tracking, and detector dog disciplines. The event provides an opportunity for handlers and their partners to demonstrate their skills while maintaining the high standards expected of police service dogs.

A special thank you goes to Goebel Soccer Complex and the Vanderburgh 4-H Center for allowing us to utilize their facilities throughout the trials. We are also grateful to the participating teams, judges, volunteers, and sponsors whose support made this event possible.

And congratulations to our own Corporal Austin Jones and K9 Jaeger on earning Top Dog honors in the Narcotics Trial. This outstanding accomplishment reflects the countless hours of training, dedication, and teamwork that go into becoming one of the best detector dog teams in the region.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2026 USPCA Region 5 K9 Trials a success. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Friday Rescue Roundup!

Meet Trix, an approximately 3-year-old Mastiff mix with a heart that's learning how to trust again. When she arrived as a stray, she was so scared that her entire body would shake.

Thanks to the patience and dedication of the loving Animal Control Officers, Trix has been making incredible progress. They’ve been working with her on building trust and confidence, and she gets a little better every day.

Trix loves treats, walks well on a leash, and is ready for a patient family who will continue helping her blossom into the amazing dog she’s meant to be.

Come meet Trix at Evansville Animal Care & Control (Official) today!

Happy World Bicycle Day!

In 2016, Sheriff Noah Robinson launched the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office Bicycle Patrol Program. Built on a foundation of both education and enforcement, the program proved so successful that it was later adopted by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute as a model for bicycle safety programs throughout Indiana.

Today is a great reminder to get outside, enjoy the ride, and appreciate the many benefits of cycling.

Looking for a place to ride? The Evansville Trails Coalition helps promote cycling, trail use, and bicycle education throughout our community. Through their programs and advocacy efforts, local residents have access to more than 75 miles of trails and greenways, including:

Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage: A scenic 6.5-mile paved trail stretching from downtown Evansville through forested and suburban areas.

USI-Burdette Trail: A 3 to 6-mile paved trail featuring hills and curves between the University of Southern Indiana and Burdette Park.

Hi-Rail Greenway: A 2.5-mile paved multi-use trail on the near east side of downtown Evansville.

McCutchanville Greenway: A paved multi-use trail on Evansville's north side that connects neighborhoods, parks, and community destinations while providing a safe route for walking, running, and cycling.

The Evansville Trails Coalition also offers a variety of rides, educational opportunities, and community programs that help cyclists of all ages and skill levels enjoy riding safely.

Whether you're commuting, exercising, or simply enjoying the outdoors, take time to celebrate World Bicycle Day safely. We hope to see you on the trails!

Litter Patrol continued making a positive impact throughout May. Despite another month of weather-related challenges, the team made steady progress across multiple locations. With the goal of filling the dumpster once a month, we're happy to report that target was achieved.

A special thank you again to Susan Harp for donating pickers to help make cleanup efforts safer, especially with the increased presence of snakes in some areas.

Participants also identified several storm drains that were no longer functioning properly due to accumulated trash, debris, and overgrowth. These drains were cleaned and cleared, allowing them to function as intended once again. Efforts like these help improve drainage, reduce standing water, and contribute to a cleaner community.
