What an unforgettable weekend for the University of Evansville Silver Aces Dancers!

Over the Fourth of July weekend, our dancers had the incredible honor of traveling to Washington, D.C. to be part of the America’s Golden Dream Dancers in celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary. Alongside talented women from across the country, they spent weeks preparing through virtual rehearsals, only coming together as one group for the very first time the day before their performance.

While severe weather prevented the planned July 4 performance for the safety of everyone involved, the experience was far from over. The Silver Aces still had the opportunity to showcase their talents with performances at the Kennedy Center and the Iwo Jima Memorial, while also exploring the history and beauty of our nation’s capital.

For Silver Ace Elissa Inez, one of the most special parts of the experience was connecting with talented dancers from across the country who share the same passion and love for dance. From learning together virtually to finally performing side-by-side, the weekend was truly an experience like no other.

Although the weekend didn’t unfold exactly as planned, the friendships made, memories created, and opportunity to represent the University of Evansville on a national stage made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We are so proud of our Silver Aces! 💜🧡

The Silver Aces, joined up with America’s Golden Dream Dancers from all over the country, had an unforgettable July 4th. 🇺🇸 The parade being canceled actually allowed us to perform the routine 4 times all over the city. We met up with The Dancing Grannies from Wisconsin at their hotel and performed for each other, then danced at historic locations such as Iwo Jima and the world renowned Kennedy Center. Ended the day with a performance in our hotel lobby that brought a lot of joy to people. We watched the fireworks from the lawn of the Kennedy Center and have been overwhelmed by this experience in so many good ways. What a testament to these ladies - for not accepting limits society puts on them, and being brave enough to chase big dreams. Amy, Insook, Elissa and I are so grateful to the Sol and Arlene Bronstein Foundation and our home studio at SWIRCA for making Silver Aces possible. And to our new friends at the America’s Golden Dream Dancers, thank you for welcoming the Hoosiers into such a wonderful group. We can’t wait to join you again sometime!

By now you’ve probably heard that the National July 4th Parade has been canceled due to the extreme heat. Heartbroken for all the groups from all over the country who worked so hard to get here. Particularly the high school marching bands who spent months raising funds with their entire communities. We hope they all get a chance to march when they get home! But we certainly respect and understand the decision made for the safety of all! And good news is, that’s not going to stop the Silver Aces and America’s Golden Dream Dancers from performing. We are suiting up and going on a tour to perform at several locations today (perhaps in some air conditioning??). Will keep you posted!

Yesterday was a wonderful experience including time at Arlington and the Military Women’s Memorial (two of us in this group served 🇺🇸), Iwo Jima, laying a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon, the Jefferson Memorial (where Silver Ace Amy Mangold got to perform some jazz routines with the group!), and then cooling off and watching the amazing Capitol Fourth concert (moved to the 3rd). We are staying flexible and having fun! Grateful to the Sol and Arlene Bronstein Foundation and our partners at SWIRCA, Evolution Ballroom and more. 💜 🧡

Wonderful day 1 as the Silver Aces get ready to perform in the National Independence Day Parade with America’s Golden Dream Dancers! It’s 🥵 hot, but not even 106 degrees can dampen the spirit of 36 women from all over the country getting to celebrate America’s birthday through the joy of dance. 🇺🇸

The last day of UE Dance Camp was epic!!! Rehearsals, relaxing during a movie, delicious Juneteenth dinner by Chef Jeff at Turn Table, LLC (grew up in the EPN and now has his own business), and getting ready to show out for their friends and families. About 130 people came to see our kids for the best show we’ve ever had. Our hearts are so full, and we can’t wait till next year (the UE Dance Company’s 10 year anniversary!!). Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. Our sponsors, particularly the Evansville Promise Neighborhood, all the departments at UE who work to set it up, and particularly the incredible staff willing to overwork their bodies and minds to give the kids this experience. Not everyone is willing to do summer camps, they’re hard! It takes a special kind of person to be willing to do that for another person’s benefit, and I’m so grateful to our team of 15 this year. And of course, thank you to our families and campers for trusting us. You’ve changed our lives too, and you’re all !!! 💜 🧡
