IRRR is a state of Minnesota economic development agency that reinvests local taconite production taxes back into northeastern Minnesota businesses and communities in order to strengthen and diversify the economy. The agency's mission is invest resources to foster vibrant growth and economic prosperity in northeastern Minnesota.

REMINDER: The final RAMS Iron Range mining forum will be held Wednesday, May 13, in Aurora.

The session will run from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Aurora Community Center and will focus on how shifting mining trends could affect local government budgets, schools and planning across the Iron Range.

Topics include iron ore market conditions, production tax projections and potential impacts on local funding, followed by panel discussions and audience questions.

School, township, city and county officials are encouraged to attend.

REMINDER: Iron Range mining forums continue tonight and Wednesday.

The Range Association of Municipalities and Schools (RAMS) is hosting a series of public forums on how shifting mining trends could affect local government budgets, schools and future planning across the Iron Range.

Tonight, May 11

Wednesday, May 13
Biwabik/Aurora
5-6:30 p.m.
Aurora Community Center

Topics include iron ore market conditions, production tax projections and potential impacts on local funding, followed by panel discussions and audience questions.

Speakers include Ida Rukavina, commissioner of Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation (IRRR); Mike Jugovich, St. Louis County commissioner; Pete Hyduke, mayor of Hibbing; Dr. Noel Schmidt, superintendent of Rock Ridge Public Schools; Jason Janisch, climate & energy policy advisor for IRRR; and Paul Peltier, executive director of RAMS.

It’s Economic Development Week, and we’re celebrating the partnerships and people driving growth across our region — including our team’s participation in the Indigenous Business Growth & Development Summit at Black Bear Casino last week.

Tribal leaders, Indigenous entrepreneurs, state partners and industry voices engaged in discussions on contracting and procurement, infrastructure, transportation, workforce, clean energy and natural resource innovation.
