Fire Prevention 2026 🔥🧯🚒

We spent all day at the Laurentian Elementary teaching roughly 450 kids all about fire safety. Some of the topics discussed today were Stop Drop & Roll, home escape plans, safe charging, and fire extinguisher use.

We would like to thank Gilbert, MN Fire Department Fayal Fire Department Makinen Volunteer Fire Department and Virginia Fire Department for taking the time to assist and make today successful!

We would also like to thank the Eveleth Subway for providing our members with a delicious lunch, and Connie from the Eveleth Volunteer Fire Auxiliary for making coffee and providing snacks!

We look forward to this event every year and truly enjoy spending the day with the kids!

This morning Captain Kraskey made a visit to Heidi Fingeroos's home daycare to let the kids explore the fire truck and ask questions about our equipment and what we do. Although fire prevention week doesn't officially start until next week, we enjoy getting out with the community as often as possible, and teaching them about fire safety!

Last Monday, Captain Kraskey (far right) made the trip to St. Micheals to accept a generous donation of 10 specialized particulate blocking hoods through Hoods4Heros, made possible by the Minnesota Fire Fighters Foundation, in collaboration with Randy Shaver and the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund.

These specialized protective hoods provide an important additional layer of protection for our firefighters.

Structure fires can release thousands of hazardous chemicals, including numerous carcinogens, which is exposing firefighters to dangerous toxins and particulate matter during and after fire suppression operations.

Our department extends its sincere appreciation to the Minnesota Fire Fighters Foundation, Hoods4Heroes, Randy Shaver, and the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund for their continued commitment to protecting the health and safety of firefighters.

Join us in welcoming Cassidy Kampsula to the department. Cassidy comes to us with no fire experience, but does have a background in EMS and emergency communications (911 dispatch). She has already started her fire 1 & 2 classes and is eager to become more involved in the fire side of things. Welcome to the department!
