Everett Haitian Community Center

Everett Haitian Community Center EHCC promotes and strengthens the social and emotional well-being of the community. Provinding resources, and services leading to self-sufficiency.

The Everett Haitian Community Center (EHCC) is the first and only volunteer social welfare social justice faith-based human rights, civil rights and anti-poverty Haitian-American organization situated in Massachusetts – United States of America focused on the youths, aged, widowed, and orphaned immigrants of all faiths in Everett, Malden, Medford, Chelsea, Revere, East Boston, Lynn; Woburn and other Greater Boston areas. Created by Ebenezer Family & Children’s Services Inc. a non-profit interfaith-based, EHCC in collaborative fiscal agent partnership of other entities as La Comunidad, Inc. 501c(3) organization, has been responding to the growing needs of our community. Informally serving those in need since 1999 through its mobile house-to-house services on-wheels Program, after the 2010 earthquake, the Ebenezer Family & Children’s Services Everett Haitian Community Center supported the undocumented children and searched for those who were unaccounted for to remind of the need to renew their TPS after the USCIS had encouraged stakeholders to help. By forging cross-sectors relationships with lawyers, law students, legal aid entities, EHCC provided access to assistance on the Haitian Family Reunification Parole Program. Due to gentrification in Somerville, EHCC helped and advocated for the increasing influx of the immigrants that came to Everett and surrounding cities. Later-on, it has been housed and supported by La Comunidad, Inc. With the closure of the Community Action Agency, Tri-Cap in Malden, there has been a service gap especially in the area of housing, energy fuel assistance and many former clients of Tri-Cap were not aware of the closure or where to receive services that used to be provided by the Agency. The Everett Haitian Community Center was flooded with low-income families who needed help. EHCC helped them through the transition to access and navigate services from ABCD. With the homeless and jobs crisis of undocumented families and students in the Everett School System Malden, and Greater Boston, the Everett Haitian Community Center developed support services to help members of the community through the times of crisis transitions with additional collaboration of CAPIC staff – addressing issues with city officials to discuss homeless crisis, housing assistance and overall service gaps in a structured comprehensive manner and bringing the attention of undocumented homeless students in the context of fair housing civil rights to the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) as an overlooked / undeserved population and area that warrants serious and compassionate attention.

Mission: Our mission’s primary focus is to feed community bodily, emotionally, and spritually; organize, provide access, inclusion, help, healing, and caring meaningful services infused with core values to strengthen lives, maintain a healthy community, revitalize faith-based services, reduce homelessness, increase access to fair, affordable, healthy housing, employment, individual and collective community well-being; advocate for and integrating new immigrants into the fabric of the city and society and connect older with new citizens.

The debate last night should be a strong indication that we must fight to have the right political representations. Nothing more determines the number of representatives we have than the decennial count. Let’s do this. Contact the EHCC if you need volunteers. Today by 11:00 AM. They will be at your service until 6 pm today!! We got them ready for you!

I am super proud of the Census efforts by the organizations that make up the Everett Complete Count Committee!

The Ward I represent is considered one of the hardest to count and I am committed to changing that. The last push has been real and I am incredibly fortunate to be able to partner with our local organizations for these final efforts.

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of joining my colleagues in service to kick-off the “Karavan Nou Tout Konte” (We all Count) organized by The Everett Haitian Community Center - EHCC and a powerful coalition of local churches from the Haitian community. The energy and commitment to getting every member of our community counted were simply contagious and undeniable.

For hundreds of years, black individuals did not count. The coalition has been empowering members of the Haitian community to fully own the power of being counted as a full human (not half) and member of our City.

Thank you, Reverend Myrlande DesRosiers, all of the religious leaders that joined the caravan, and our youth volunteers for your dedication to making Everett count.

With 7 days left to complete the Census, the work by the City and the Everett Complete Count Committee hasn’t stopped.

Yesterday, Clerk Sergio Cornelio and I welcomed the US Census team to the George Keverian School in Ward 2 to assist families with completing the Census during the technology distribution.

Later, the team moved to Pope John where we were able to reach out to parents of children attending the FKO program.

Thank you, Superintendent @tahiliani.priya , Mr. Naumann, and the FKO program for accommodating us with such short notice.

A huge thank you to the tireless Dale Palma and the Connolly Center volunteers that helped us to staple materials to the food pantry bags, and Councilor Michael Mclaughlin for his support.

Today, the Everett Haitian Community Center has Census enumerators assisting parents at the Madeline English School.

As local and global concern about the current COVID-19 outbreak grows, a group of Harvard Medical School students thought of ways they can help our different communities. Shortly after I was connected with them, I joined them in their mission to help families get accurate information as well as access to resources in their local communities. I’m reaching out to your organization because it serves a large population of Haitian and Haitian-Americans. Consequently, I hope our multilingual website (English, Spanish, Haitian-Creole, and Portuguese): contracovid.com, can be a resource for information and news about COVID-19, as well as social assistance resources to help in the current climate. We would be grateful if you could share our site with your community so that they can stay up to date with the current situation. Please stay safe! Kind regards, Melissa
