Today, the City of Everett in partnership with the Everett Haitian Community Center celebrated our 5th Annual Haitian Flag Raising in honor of Haitian Flag Day. The City of Everett has always been a welcoming place for all and as your Mayor, I promise it will continue to be.
Last week, we celebrated the Black Excellence on the Hill awards! I was honored to nominate my friend Revered Myrlande DesRosiers of the Everett Haitian Community Center, as well as Kyéra Sterling, Mark Martinez, and Maia Raynor of Beacon BLOC (nominated in partnership with my friend State Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz). Rev. Myrlande has always been a force within our community, but she has truly gone above and beyond during this pandemic to ensure that our community has the resources we need and that our COVID-19 response is truly equitable. Everett is very fortunate to have her as a leader within our community. In addition to the great work they do as legislative staff in the State House, Kyéra, Mark, and Maia helped found Beacon BLOC in 2020, with the mission to build a racial justice-centered staff community at the State House. We are lucky to have their vision and dedication to making the People’s House a welcoming place for everyone.
Join CHA physician, Dr. Gerard Coste, as he answers questions about the COVID-19 vaccine. This event is in French. Hosted by the Everett Haitian Community Center
Please join the Everett Haitian Community Center tomorrow morning at 10AM as they discuss the vaccination process with Cambridge Health Alliance and members of the City Administration. Thank you EHCC for organizing this important event.
As we sit down this evening to unwind, I invite you to watch a short video comprised of local residents, City employees, elected officials, and social organizations as they reflect on MLK Jr. day. Thank you to everyone who participated in our virtual ceremony, your words are so powerful. This morning, the Governor announced the award of Health Resources in Action (HRiA) COVID-19 Community Grants to community and faith-based organizations across the Commonwealth, with organizations serving Malden awarded just over $80,000. These organizations include Everett Haitian Community Center, Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers, and New American Association of MA. These funds will help to build capacity and implement community interventions to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in communities experiencing the greatest inequities during the ongoing pandemic. Grantees will build on the efforts of local and state officials, along with the Commonwealth's public messaging campaign to ensure that all residents of the Commonwealth have access to the information they need to keep themselves and members of their community safe. Go to Mass.gov/StopCOVID19 for more information on how to keep you and your loved ones safe!
