Flake Fest is this Saturday! Make plans to join us for some fun on the ice.
Welcome to the official page for Evergreen Park, Illinois! The population at the time was approximately 500 people. Route 12 and U.S. The U.S.
Almost one hundred and twenty years ago, while other towns surrounding Chicago were requesting
annexation to survive, Evergreen Park boldly decided to declare its independence. Fifty-one residents turned out on December 20, 1893 when forty of them voted for incorporation
and the area became the Village of Evergreen Park. Many of the original settlers were hard working farm families. From these hu
mble beginnings, Evergreen Park has become a thriving residential suburb located astride 95th Street (U.S. Route 20) adjacent to the attractive Beverly Hills section of Chicago and seventeen miles southwest of the Loop. The Village encompasses an area of approximately four square miles and is bordered by the City of Chicago on the north, south and east, and by the Village of Oak Lawn on the west. Evergreen Park is known as the "Village of Churches" as evidenced by the thirteen established religious congregations serving the community. Census of 2010 shows the population of the Village at 20,000.

A Message from Mayor Kelly Burke
Hello Neighbors,
Last week I had the honor of presenting the State of the Village address at the monthly luncheon of the Evergreen Park Senior Council, providing updates on business, events, and public safety.
In 2022, the Village approved 35 business licenses, with Chili’s and the combo of Macy’s Backstage and Market by Macy’s being the newest big additions. There is more to come in 2023 with the new Subaru dealership, a wine bar, and Biggby Coffee expected to open. Bringing in new business continues to be a top priority and the Village will focus on improving the amenities and services that businesses find attractive.
We are very lucky to have a fantastic Police Department and Fire Department here in the Village. They do an outstanding job serving our residents each and every day. Just like many industries, hiring has been a challenge and the Village is willing to make policy adjustments and participate in intern and training programs to find new qualified employees.
Safe driving through our Village streets is an understandable concern for our residents. The Village was recently awarded a grant through the AAA Auto Club Group to purchase six new solar speed signs. We will also be working with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning this spring and summer on a traffic safety study. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
In terms of events, the Village returned to pre-pandemic levels in 2022. We added a new food truck event in Klein Park that exceeded our expectations. It will return this year along with all of the community favorites of Flake Fest, Independence Day Parade and Fireworks, Labor Day Concert and Fireworks, Oktoberfest, and Dickens Fest.
This summer, residents can expect a repaving project on 99th St between Western and California, the replacement of a water main along 95th St from Western to Kedzie, and the replacement of an antiquated water lift station at 91st and Richmond.
The garbage and recycling contract between Waste Management and the Village recently expired. Waste Management’s renewal rate for a new 5-year contract was higher than we thought was reasonable. We extended the contract for one year only and will issue a request for proposal in mid-2023 to give other companies the opportunity to bid on garbage and recycling services in the Village. Unfortunately, in the meantime residents will see an increase in their quarterly garbage pick-up bill from $74.52 to $92.13. We expect that amount will decrease once we have a competitive bid.
Finally, community input is an important component of serving as your Mayor. I invite feedback from both residents and business owners on what you would like to see for Evergreen Park. Please contact me at 708-422-1551 or [email protected] with any feedback, questions, or concerns.
An update on the incoming winter weather.
Mayor Kelly Burke delivered the State of the Village address this afternoon at the monthly Senior Council luncheon. Before the address, she led the swearing-in ceremony for the new Council Officers.

6am Thursday, 12/22: Temperatures will plummet this afternoon with wind chills dropping to -25 to -35 this evening and to -35 to -40F by late tonight and Friday morning. Impacts from this storm will be driven by the combination of cold, wind, and snow rather than snow alone.

A significant winter storm is expected for Thursday and Friday - with bitter cold to follow through Sunday. Please be prepared.
5am Tuesday, 12/20: One complicating factor with this winter storm is that it is going to be dangerously cold not only after the snow ends, but also as heavy snow and potentially blizzard conditions are ongoing. Wind chill readings will drop to near 30 degrees below zero as early as Friday morning. Once the snow stops later Friday, dangerous cold will continue through the holiday weekend.
A Message from Mayor Kelly Burke
Hello Neighbors,
Chilly weather and the holiday season are bursting onto the scene here in the Village. It is an exciting time of the year and I have been enjoying all the wonderful events and activities that are happening around Evergreen Park this month.
The season kicked off with A Dickens Christmas on December 3. Despite the colder temperatures, families came out to visit with Santa and enjoy all the festive activities. Thank you to the Recreation Department, Office of Citizens’ Services, Youth Department, Public Works, and the Police and Fire Departments who once again came together for a successful event. And of course, I have to thank Santa for taking the time to come to Evergreen Park to hear the wishes of all the children.
The Annual Tree Lighting followed Dickens Christmas fest. The EPCHS Madrigal Singers delighted the crowd with their traditional holiday carols; the beautifully decorated tree in the park was thanks to our Parks foreman, Bill Green, and his crew. I hope you are able to take some time to visit Klein Park to see it for yourself. It will be up all season.
As a community, we have so many examples of our residents embracing the holiday spirit and I am grateful for the generosity of our Evergreen Park community. The donations to our Village Pantry have allowed us to help our neighbors in need. The boxes for the Youth Department’s annual coat drive were overflowing, and donations continue to come in for Toys for Tots (donations will be accepted until December 20). Village employees have pitched in and generously helped several local families in need with financial assistance as well.
May the magic of the season fill your heart with love, your home with joy, and your life with laughter. Happy Holidays to all!
Be prepared for the potential impact to holiday travel later this week.
A strong winter storm will impact the western Great Lakes region Thursday into Saturday with snow and strong winds. The worst conditions are expected Thursday evening into Friday evening, with blizzard conditions possible during this time. While specific details in the storm track and resultant snowfall amounts still need to be refined over the coming days, confidence in severe winter weather impacts to northern Illinois and northwest Indiana continues to increase. If possible, those traveling Thursday through Friday should begin to consider alternate travel plans. Regardless of the intensity of the storm, bitterly cold arctic air and strong winds will result in dangerously low wind chills Friday into Christmas.
Space is still available for tomorrow's Christkindle Market trip with OCS. Reach out to them at 708-422-8776 for more information.
The Village of Evergreen Park Public Works Department is notifying residents of a water main shutdown on Kedzie Ave. between 97th and 99th Street on Friday, December 9 between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Please contact the Police non-emergency number at 708-422-2142 or 708-989-9530 (after business hours) with any concerns.
The Water Department can be contacted during regular business hours (7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) with questions at 708-229-3361.
Metra has launched its 16th Annual Safety Poster and Essay Contest, asking students across Metra's service area to illustrate through posters and essays the importance of safe behaviors near the railroad. This year's theme is "Stay Safe, Stay Off Train Tracks." The deadline for entries is Friday, Jan. 20, 2023. Learn more at MetraContest.com.
Boy Scout Troop #3637 visited Village Hall before yesterday evening's Board of Trustees meeting. Mayor Burke gave them a tour and they had the opportunity to meet Clerk Cathy Aparo, Trustee Mark Phelan, Village Engineer Tim Klass, George Peso with the Historical Commission, and Fire Chief Ron Kleinhaus. They ended their visit by leading the Pledge of Allegiance at the Board Meeting.
This will be the final week for curbside leaf pickup. Please fill your green waste can BEFORE placing leaves on the curb. The green can will be picked up until December 15.
Mayor Kelly Burke, along with Clerk Cathy Aparo and Trustees Jeannie Olson, Mark Marzullo, Mark Phelan, Carol Kyle, and Norman Anderson, attended the Annual Tree Lighting on Saturday evening to light the tree in Klein Park. A reception followed with pastries donated by Wolf's Bakery and hot chocolate. Santa was also on hand to hear Christmas wishes.
It was a great Dickens Christmas Festival today. There's still time to join us for the Annual Tree Lighting with Mayor Burke at 6PM at Klein Park.
