February and March have been busy months. In addition to hearings and meetings in the Board of Commissioners room at the County Courthouse in Georgetown, I have been participating in events across the county. CDOT gave me a tour the Floyd Hill construction site; I met with west-end constituents to help support the Mill Creek Historical Society at their fun Mardi Gras; I attended the “Jazz Age” fundraiser for Mount Evans Hospice (which serves many Clear Creek residents) and helped sponsor our Sheriff’s Department deputies who gave up their hair to help childhood cancer patients. I also participated in the EPA and Colorado Dept. of Public Health and the Environment meeting in Idaho Springs regarding the next phase in cleaning up old mill tailings in our and Gilpin Counties. I continue to work with DRCOG in order to garner support for future road improvements in our county. I am also working with both the I-70 Coalition and Collaborative Effort to help keep our county safe as we live with the I-70 traffic and construction demands. I look forward to working with our new CC Regional Housing Director and getting more fair priced housing in Clear Creek.

December was a shorter month, so I included January in my Commissioner update here. In addition to our regular Board of County Commissioner (“BOCC”) meetings, I attended the Colorado Counties, Inc. winter conference with commissioners from all 64 Colorado counties to learn more about legislative proposals and how to work together to avoid unfunded State mandates. I also have been attending the monthly meetings of the Clear Creek Office of Emergency Management/Evergreen Fire Rescue/CC Fire Authority/CC and JeffCo Sheriffs to prepare for a fire evacuation drill in my eastern CC district in late spring. My family and I had a lovely Christmas with our son Conrad, who flew in from Boston.
In January, I was elected to serve as the BOCC Chair for 2026, where my focus will continue to be working on strengthening our Budget. Your Commissioners enjoyed visits with our US Representative Neguse and Senator Bennet, and we urged both to support our county. I have been participating in the I-70 Coalition meetings to keep abreast of the Floyd Hill construction and other I-70 issues across our county. I have been working with the CC Regional Housing Authority, which is currently advertising for a new Executive Director. This past week, I gave a presentation to the Denver Regional Council of Governments (“DRCOG”) urging them to include Clear Creek in their Metro Planning Organization, which provides funding for improving local transportation and road/bridge issues. As we in Clear Creek know, I-70 issues in our county can directly impact Front Range and Denver travelers and commerce.
