There will be a loss that changes the way you understand loss.

Someone will die who was so built into your life that you never really imagined a future without them. And suddenly you’re not only grieving the person you lost. You’re grieving everything that was supposed to happen with them still here.

The birthdays. The ordinary phone calls. The Christmases. The milestones you assumed they’d see. All the stupid little conversations you thought you had years left to have.

You knew people died before this. You knew grief was painful.

But knowing someone can die and knowing what it feels like when it’s your person are two completely different things.

Yesterday was National grief day.

Most of us don’t need a day. We feel it everyday in the heavy feeling in our chests, the realisation we won’t see them again or thinking of the regrets we have.

Gone is such a small word for something so permanent.

Grief is having to live with something every part of you wants to change, while knowing there is absolutely nothing you can do to change it.

WANT THIS MARDI GRAS PLATE?
⏳ If you want the proposed Birthplace of Mardi Gras license plate on Alabama roads, now is the time to reserve one.

🎭 The plate must receive enough pre-commitments by Nov. 1 to go into production.

A pre-commitment costs $50, and drivers do not have to wait until their tag is due for renewal.

Proceeds would support Alabama’s Mardi Gras community through grants and scholarships.

TO RESERVE ONE

• Visit Alabama’s MyDMV website.

• Choose “Plates” and “Reserve a Pre-Commitment Plate.”

• Select “Birthplace of Mardi Gras.”

• Complete the information and payment.

If the goal is not reached, buyers may request a refund from the Birthplace of Mardi Gras Foundation.

You shouldn’t have to keep asking for a seat at a table where people have made it clear they don’t value your presence. Somewhere there are people who will move over before you even have to ask. People who include you in the plans, notice when you’re missing and make you feel like your place with them was never something you had to earn.
