Kendra is a volunteer ESL teacher and could use help this summer with classes. You don’t need specialized training. Volunteers just help with one-on-one conversation practice. Many of our WLC students volunteered this past year and both Kendra and the students truly appreciated their help! You can go whenever you can, and even one class session is a big help. Please forward this info to anyone interested in lending a hand. I know they would love the help! (you can message us for Kendra's email address)

In addition to our 2024 graduates, our department is sad to say goodbye to two of our most beloved colleagues, who are leaving the classroom after this semester. Joe Goebel and Regina Morin both received their PhDs in linguistics from Georgetown University and together they built the applied linguistics and Spanish linguistics programs for our department. They have served as mentors and role models to countless students and faculty. Many students will tell you that their classes with Regina and Joe were both their most challenging and their favorite. We can’t imagine our department without them both! Thank you, Regina and Joe, for EVERYTHING!

Amanda Kirschner, German Studies Minor, Chemistry Major, is the first recipient of the World Languages and Cultures’ Business Certificate for German. Pictured with Professor Fenner after delivering her impressive final presentation, in German (!), on a German Lab and Research device company, whose products she frequently uses in her lab work at TCNJ. What a great culmination of language, business and research in her area of specialty complementing one another from every angle. A perfect equation!

We just added a new section of SPA 228: Spanish for Law, Justice, and Human Services with Dr. Warner-Ault. The course builds Spanish speaking skills and intercultural proficiency to help students engage with monolingual Spanish speakers in legal, justice, and human services settings. The class emphasizes developing empathy and respect for the immigrant experience and hardships others face and counts as part of both the three-course undergraduate certificate in Spanish for Law and Justice and Spanish for Counseling
