Structure Fire - Superior & Park Area

ESFD firefighters were dispatched at approximately 7:40 a.m. this morning to a reported structure fire involving an abandoned maintenance building located behind 410 Superior.

The fire was brought under control without incident; however, extinguishment and investigation operations required an extended on scene time due to conditions within the abandoned structure.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation in cooperation with the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office.

During the course of the incident, ESFD along with mutual aid resources responded to an additional four calls for service within the community.

We are thankful for the assistance provided by our mutual aid partners, both with on scene operations and by helping provide additional emergency coverage for the citizens of Excelsior Springs.

🚨 Severe Weather Update 🚨

With the threat of severe weather impacting the Excelsior Springs area this afternoon, we want to provide some information and reminders to help everyone stay prepared.

Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, such as:
• NOAA Weather Radio
• Weather apps on your phone
• Local television or radio news

You can also follow the Excelsior Springs Fire Department page and the Excelsior Citizen for updates regarding storm conditions and potential shelter openings.

❗️Due to the timing of the storms today, Cornerstone Elementary will NOT be open to the public as a storm shelter, unless otherwise posted on our Facebook.

❗️Lewis Elementary (501 Leavenworth) will be opened if our area is expected to be directly impacted by dangerous weather.

ESFD crews will make every effort to notify the public via social media and provide ample travel time to the shelter, but this cannot always be guaranteed. Please have a secondary safety plan in place.

Thank you for your cooperation, and please stay weather aware and stay safe.

Today is Capt. Ben's birthday! He got to wear the birthday crown, FF Michael Morrow got him a cake and he got winded (and giggled) blowing out the candles- that he just couldn't get blown out. 🎂 🥳 🎉
Please wish Ben a happy birthday!

Storms will be rolling into the area. Stay weather aware this evening.
