The California Department of Food and Agriculture, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service, recently released the 2026 California Citrus Acreage Report. Statewide estimates for the 2024-25 season show 266,300 bearing acres. View the report for detailed acreage by citrus type, county, variety and year planted.

We are pleased to announce that Tom Danowski has been selected as our new CEO following an extensive search conducted by the CCM Board of Directors.

Danowski brings more than three decades of executive leadership experience spanning agriculture, advocacy, trade association management, and marketing. Most recently, he served for 13 years as President and CEO of the Oregon Wine Board and Oregon Winegrowers Association.

GOOD NEWS!!! The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced plans to purchase $20M in fresh oranges and $12.5M in fresh grapefruit through the Section 32 purchase program! This program helps stabilize the market during periods of surplus by reducing inventory, which helps grower returns. Thank you to USDA for supporting citrus growers with these purchases!

Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the decision to update the federal standard for orange juice. Orange juice will now be permitted to contain up to 15 percent juice from mandarins and mandarin hybrids, a win for California growers who produce a large volume of mandarins.

Congratulations to the recipients of our 2026 Student Scholarships, Travis Smith, Hank Neufeld, and Luke Fisher. We had a number of outstanding students apply this year, and selections were based on a combination of their academic record, extracurricular achievements, essay submissions, and virtual interviews. Last week, CCM Chair Julia Inestroza highlighted the challenges facing California citrus growers during a roundtable discussion with U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and various commodity groups in Bakersfield. Thank you to Congressman David G. Valadao and his staff for facilitating this roundtable.

A few snapshots from our tour of Limoneira yesterday with staff from the offices of U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Senate President Pro Tempore Senator Monique Limón, Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, and Assemblymember Steve Bennett. The tour included visits to orchards and the packinghouse, along with a roundtable discussion on what it takes to get citrus from the field to consumers’ tables and the key challenges facing California citrus growers today.
