NEW PLAYGROUND AT LITTLEFIELD

The Audubon County Conservation Board constructed a new playground at Littlefield Rec Area last fall. Conservation staff assembled three large play structures in the beach shelter area. The project got started nearly three years ago when we were approached by members of the 100 Women Who Care of Audubon County when they inquired about adding new playground equipment to the park. The 100 Women Who Care made a donation to the project and the conservation board matched it with camping revenue. Four separate grants were received from the Omaha Community Foundation thru the Audubon Community foundation totaling $50,000. The Schildberg Foundation made a contribution to the project. The last Piece of the project came with a Grant in the amount of $30,000 from the Iowa West Foundation for this project. The conservation board secured a total of $100,000 to purchase playground equipment. The original plan was to purchase one very large playground unit. The conservation board was able to purchase three large playground units that were on sale for half price from two different companies. The grants were written to build a playground complex. All three of the units were assembled in the playground area close to the beach shelter. This is the reason why all three units are located in the same area. The conservation board had to follow the guidelines of the grants, so this is the reason they are all located in the same area. Bring your kids out to the park and let them enjoy the new playground.
