With the periods of heavy rain and wind forecast for this weekend, much of the region is being warned about standing water and debris on roadways. Please remember “Safety First” when heading out in your car.
• Never drive through standing water. If you cannot see the road, TURN AROUND and take a different route.
• If you see a road barricade, it has been placed there for your safety. Emergency response personnel place road blocks when, in their PROFESSIONAL opinion, roads are undrivable. Never try to move or drive around a barricade. TURN AROUND and find a different route.

Public works crews are out around the Township clearing the storm inlets, especially in areas where flooding is most likely. If you see a storm inlet that is clogged, you can help:
• Call 484-875-6020 to report a clogged storm inlet on a West Whiteland Township road. (For state roads such as Ship, Boot, Grove, King and others, call PennDOT at 484-340-3200, then 1 at the prompts).
• If you are able, push the debris to the side so it is not covering the storm drain. This is helpful for your neighborhood storm drains and can be a simple way to reduce the risk of flooding on your street.

High winds complicate matters, as debris will blow back over the inlets and can cause branches or even full trees to fall onto the roadways. During exceptionally windy and rainy periods, please consider your personal safety before heading out.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Do not walk or drive through flood waters. Vehicles can get swept away by as little as twelve inches of moving water– when in doubt, “Turn around, don’t drown!”

Never drive around the barriers blocking a flooded road. You do not know the depth of the water or the condition of the ground under the water. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars and just 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters.

Starting today, July 18, a portion of Clover Mill Rd. will be closed for sinkhole repair. There will be a short detour on Jeffers Circle. Please contact the Dept. of Public Works at 484-875-6020 with questions.

Due to the storms last week, we know a lot of residents have additional yard debris. This Saturday, July 8, we will provide a drop-off dumpster at 222 N. Pottstown Pike, Exton, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. The dumpster will be between the Township garage and Green Drop.

Staff will be monitoring the dumpster to ensure only yard debris is discarded there, and that it is being used only by Township residents. If you have questions, please email [email protected] during normal business hours.

For our Pay-As-You-Throw households, curbside trash and recycling will be collected on WEDNESDAY this week, due to the July 4th holiday. Please have all items at the curb by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5.

We know many homes have collected a lot of extra yard debris from the storms last week. We are working with Blosenski to see if it will be possible to schedule an additional curbside pick-up for July. We hope to have more information on that by the end of the week and will keep you posted.

All - please enjoy a safe and happy 4th of July!

Good morning, West Whiteland! The overnight storms left us with trees and power lines down as well as many road closures. Some of the areas affected include:

Road closures - S. Whitford Road from Lincoln to Spackman Lane
Burgoyne Road
Clover Mill Road to the Township line
Most of Meadowbrook Manor and the Crest
Segments of Burke Road
Other roads here and there

Township crews – Public Works, Fire and Police – are working round the clock to clear the roads. They are working with PennDOT and PECO to ensure everyone’s safety. Please be patient as downed power lines MUST be removed first prior to the trees blocking roadways.

For downed power lines, please assume the power line is energized and dangerous. Even lines that are de-energized may become energized at any time. Call 9-1-1 to report a downed power line. Do not try to move it yourself. PECO technicians will be on their way.

If you are without power, please make sure that you have reported the outage to PECO by calling 1-800-841-4141.

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us.

The Township Administrative Offices will close today at 11 AM due to the inclement weather. Offices will reopen at 8 A.M. on Tuesday, December 27th.

For your safety, please refrain from parking in the roadways so that the Township's Public Works team may effectively keep the roads clear for emergency responders as well as to salt the roads. Please stay safe and exercise caution during today’s and this weekend's frigid weather.

Enjoy the holidays and stay warm!
