It was a yellow truck day for Faber Volunteer Fire Department!

On 1/3/26, North Garden Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire on Bear Creek Rd which is very close to Faber VFD. They requested a brush truck from Faber VFD. It turned out to be a shed on fire and it was quickly brought under control.

Faber and North Garden have a long working relationship. Faber still runs Brush 38 and Attack 36 (Pictured) that they bought used off of North Garden. North Garden is unique in the fact that they run yellow fire trucks. We fit in well today!

On Sunday at 0847 11/16/25 Nelson County Dispatched a fire all call for a fast moving brush fire at the intersection of Rockfish River Rd and Farrar Bridge Ln. A large tree had fallen on a power line which started a ground fire. Approximately 1 acre of medium sized fuels were on fire when the first unit arrived on scene. A local homeowner cut a fire line with a bulldozer which contained the fire. Virginia Department of Forestry also responded with their bulldozer. Units remained on scene for “mop up” (a term meaning put all the hot spots out). Nelson County Volunteer units and Wintergreen units cleared around 1100. No injuries or property loss occurred.

Members of the Faber Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dispatch for smoke near Norwood Road and James River Road on 11/23/24 around 10 AM.
Faber responded with Attack 36, Brush 39, and Tanker 37. It took Company 3 some time to actually locate the brush fire, but when they did, it was just into Buckingham County. Chief 30 commited our resources as mutual aid to our neighboring county and we went to work! Nice job Buckingham County Department of Emergency Services, Virginia Department of Forestry, and everyone else involved!

If any road is at a standstill there is always a reason. We are out there trying to assist you. Please be patient with emergency crews and try to leave a lane open for us to reach the scene! We have been cutting trees alongside VDOT off of Route 29 all weekend.

This is actually the second tree this size we cut in this location and there were several large mudslides in this area as well.

Members of the FVFD had a very successful night combating the effects of Debby.

It felt like the Faber area was getting the worst of it throughout the night. We cleared countless trees from the roadways, responded to concerned citizens, responded with EMS to ensure the routes were passable, and cordoned off flooded roads, landslides, and washed out bridges.

Thank you to the citizens of Nelson County for hunkering down and staying off the roadways last night. And another huge thanks to the people who cut or moved a tree or debris out of the road. We appreciate you!

Edit: After doing a little reading, where we operated the most last night, Rockfish River Road, got 10 inches of rain! As Chief 30 likes to say “We went to battle!”. Special thanks to Sheriff Embrey for giving us much needed backup!

Stay safe.
