Happy National Parents' Day! ❤️

Parenting is one of the most profound things a human being can do and one of the least acknowledged for how genuinely hard it is.

Today we celebrate parents in every form. Birth parents and adoptive parents. Single parents carrying it all alone. Stepparents who chose this role. Grandparents who stepped in when it counted. Parents of children with complex needs. Parents who are doing their best with what they were given.

We also want to say this plainly: parenting is emotional labor.

It asks you to give constantly, often without much space to refill. The patience required, the worry that never fully goes away, the love that is bigger than anything you were prepared for... that takes a toll, even when it is also the greatest joy of your life.

Taking care of your own mental health isn't separate from being a good parent. It is part of it. To every parent in our community: you are doing something that matters deeply. You deserve support too.

Here's something worth remembering: self-care is not selfish. It is not a luxury. It is not something you earn after you've taken care of everyone else first.

It is the thing that makes everything else sustainable 🌱

The date 7/24 was chosen intentionally because self-care isn't meant to happen once a year on a special occasion. It's meant to happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in small and consistent ways.

That might look like a therapy appointment. It might look like a walk, a boundary, a full night of sleep, or finally asking for help you've been putting off.

Whatever it looks like for you ... it counts. It matters. And you deserve it. 💛

Port Huron, meet Lauren Bomke, MA LLPC!!

Lauren is joining our brand new Port Huron location and we couldn't be more excited to welcome her.

Her approach is warm, attentive, and honest. She is dedicated to creating space where clients can explore their experiences without judgment. Lauren has a particular commitment to affirming, supportive care for LGBTQIA+ individuals, as well as those navigating grief, identity exploration, and life transitions.

Before becoming a therapist, Lauren worked as an EMT, sitting with people in their most vulnerable moments. That experience shaped her belief that simply being present and truly witnessed can be one of the most powerful parts of healing.

Lauren sees clients in person in Port Huron and via telehealth for anyone across Michigan.
