This morning at 6:34 a.m., FLPD responded to two pedestrians struck at Broadway/32nd Street. Upon arrival, officers, with assistance from Fair Lawn and Bergen County EMS, rendered aid to the 47-year-old mother and her 5-year-old child, both Fair Lawn residents. Both were transported to Hackensack Hospital. The child suffered severe head injuries, and the mother suffered minor injuries.
The driver ultimately fled the scene. Investigative work by Fair Lawn Detectives located the vehicle and driver in a neighboring town. With the assistance of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the driver was taken into custody, charged with several crimes and motor vehicle summonses, and transported to the Bergen County Jail.
The FLPD would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that if you are involved in a crash, the right thing to do is summon the police for assistance and not leave the scene.
If we all take a moment and care for each other, we can accomplish so much more.
