Today we celebrate Library Workers, without whom our libraries cannot work. We all have a story to tell about a time when a caring library professional made a difference in our lives. Make sure you take a moment today to thank a library worker for making your Alaska community stronger and more deeply connected.

Thank you to Alaska's School Librarians for going above and beyond. From digital literacy and research skills to creating a calming space for curious minds, you are a vital part of our school communities.

To celebrate , brings you this quote from AASL Past President, Becky Calzada. "School librarians work in a profession in service to others and the impact of a single school librarian’s actions on a broader network can be immeasurable over time. Just as a stone thrown into a pond creates expanding ripples, illustrating how an initial action or change can have a wider impact, school librarians initiate actions everyday that have a ripple effect on student learning, teacher practices, and the overall school culture." Hey, Conference-goers! Maite Lorente, stellar Sitka librarian, has charted a unique experience that will set the course for AkLA 2026.

Maite's words:

🌊A Tribute to the Ocean🌊 is a sample of a series created to highlight the critical role that commercial fishing and the people involved play in the life of Sitka, our town. The artist, Stephen Lawrie, has agreed to showcase some of his paintings to welcome librarians from every part of Alaska to Sitka Public Library.
