This week we’d like to introduce you to Cadet Chris Hilliard, an MSIII Active Duty Option cadet in the University of Alaska Anchorage Army ROTC program. His professional goals are to commission as an Armor officer and successfully complete the demanding requirements of Ranger School, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in leadership and combat arms proficiency.

Recently, Cadet Hilliard competed in the Frostbite Footrace 5K, where he placed 8th overall and finished 1st in his age bracket with a final time of 24 minutes. His performance reflects a high level of physical readiness, discipline, and competitive drive—qualities essential to success as a future Army officer.

Glad to have you on our team Cadet Hilliard! Go Seawolves!

The Seawolves have been gearing up for Ranger Challenge 2026 by getting their hands on the M240, M249, ASIPs and practicing the infamous one rope bridge! UAA Cadets provided a Color Guard to the Alaska Student Shine Assembly, supporting homeschool students seeking future college education. Lastly, we conducted CWST familiarization with our neighbor AFROTC program and finished with a competitive water polo match. A new tradition everyone loved! We are headed to RC '26 soon, stay tuned!

Branch Night marks not just a transition, but a testament to the hard work, resilience, and leadership that define Army ROTC cadets.

Last Friday, we celebrated the commitment, discipline, and dedication that brought each cadet to this milestone. We had four outstanding cadets recieve their branches, CDT Koebl & CDT Lanier branching Active Duty Signal, CDT Loconte branching Reserves Military Intelligence, and last but not least CDT McNeill branching Active Duty EOD. Their selections reflect on their years of training, personal growth, and a deep commitment to serving our nation.

We’re proud to support every soldier as they take the next step forward stepping into their roles as future Army officers and leaders of character. Here’s to new beginnings, stronger teams, and the missions they will soon lead.

But Branch Night is just the beginning of the celebration. This saturday marks the day on which two of our amazing cadets commission and all their hard work comes to fruition!

Finally, as we close out the semester and move into the holiday season, we want to wish our cadets, families, and supporters a very Happy Holidays. May this time bring rest, gratitude, and togetherness as we look forward to an exciting new year of growth, training, and leadership development.

The multi-day field training exercise instilled fundamental soldiering skills. The Nanook Battalion, which includes the University of Alaska Fairbanks as the host school and the University of Alaska Anchorage as a detachment, cooperates with the U.S. Army and the Alaska Army National Guard to educate, train, and prepare students to serve as commissioned officers in the Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard.
