CallAir Project Update

Good progress is being made on our CallAir project. With the new fabric and filler coats completed on the fuselage, much time was spent prepping for final paint, and it is finally done! And it is definitely very red. Steve, Larry, Bill and the rest of the crew have put a lot of time in on this project and would certainly appreciate folks stopping by to admire the results.

The CallAir work group meets every Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Chapter hangar located at 3800 Tibor. All members are welcome to come and be part of the fun. And if you are not an EAA member, come anyway and we will be happy to sign you up for a FREE 6-month trial membership!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST MARCH 21

We are hosting a pancake breakfast at our chapter hangar for our members and the community to have an extra opportunity to hang out, have coffee, enjoy some pancakes and sausage, and chat. The date is this coming Saturday, March 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the event is completely free of charge. We would love to see you there! If you would like to contribute your time with set up, or break down, or anything in between please reach out to your closest Board member. Otherwise, just plan on joining us, and invite anyone you know in the community who would enjoy talking about aviation with us, check out our hangar, and see where we are on our CallAir restoration project.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 5 at our chapter hangar at 3800 Tibor. VMC club will meet at 6:00, with social hour/dinner starting at 6:30, and the meeting should begin around 7. James and TJ are ordering pizzas from East Ramp Pizza for our main course. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share if you are able as well as anything special you want to drink other than coffee or water.

Our special event of the night is a Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for long time member Will Johnson. Congratulations to Will! It will be great hearing about the adventures that brought him to this point.

Ken is providing the presentation for the evening. He tells me it is titled “Travels with Ken & Nikki: How we spent our (late) summer”. Ken will be describing their 3-month drive/fly from Arizona to the east coast, to Houston and back to AZ. Their travels covered airshows in Akron and Columbus, the Military Air Museum in Chesapeake and an international quilt show in Houston. Main focus though is on the week at Triple Tree Aerodrome!

An upcoming event to put on your calendars is a free pancake breakfast on Saturday, March 21, from 8 am to 10 am, at the chapter hangar. This is a great opportunity to hang out, have coffee, enjoy some pancakes and sausage, and chat. Plan on joining us and invite anyone you know in the community who would enjoy talking about aviation with us and finding out more about our hangar, our activities and the EAA in general.

Well our EAA Chapter 1129 Banquet is over for another year, but we had a full house and a fantastic speaker in Alex Dupuis. Hope everyone had a great time! Here are a few photos of the event!

Our next meeting is this coming THURSDAY, February 5. We will be starting at 6:00 with the VMC Club, followed by social hour and food starting at 6:30. The regular meeting should start around 7. Our meeting location is the Chapter hangar at 3800 Tibor. Our main meal is being provided by Karen Bollinger and we are hearing lasagna is on the menu. Art is bringing the garlic bread. If you can, bring a salad or dessert to share as well as your drink of choice. All are welcome!

Our program is a good one – Members Mike Davis and Sam Trotske will be telling us about their Kitfox projects. Mike tells me that they will be sharing why they chose the Kitfox, give a brief overview of the aircraft specifications and then get into the dream vs. the reality of the whole experience!

The next evening after the meeting is our annual Banquet at Pike’s. If you haven’t already bought your ticket, do so NOW! The event is almost sold out, with over 90% of the tickets sold. And at midnight tonight (that’s Tuesday, February 3), prices for the few remaining tickets go up by $5 to $60. It is looking to be a great event!

January 8 Meeting CANCELED

A look at the forecast temperatures for today at Fairbanks International has convinced the EAA Chapter board that it is very unlikely that temperatures will be warmer than -30 deg F at 5 pm this evening. Therefore in consideration of the folks that are preparing our program as well as food, we are CANCELING tonight's meeting due to cold temperatures.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 5. Mike and Sam will be giving the presentation on their Kit Fox projects then.

Our program is a good one – Members Mike Davis and Sam Trotske will be telling us about their Kitfox projects. Mike tells me that they will be sharing why they chose the Kitfox, give a brief overview of the aircraft specifications and then get into the dream vs. the reality of the whole experience!

Remember, if the temperature is -30°F (-22°C) or colder at the airport at 5 pm on meeting night, the meeting is cancelled. Call ASOS at (907) 621-7609 to check.
