Our friends at American Legion Post 180 in Hebron are opening their doors to the community for a special Patriot Day Open House Social.

Join them Thursday, September 10 at 5:00 PM at the Hebron Country Club as they come together to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

This event is open to everyone—not just Veterans or Legion members. It’s an opportunity for Veterans, families, and members of the community to come together, enjoy some fellowship, and learn more about the American Legion and its family of organizations.

Residents are asked to attend graveside services for veteran who has no relatives.

GRAND ISLAND – Hall County Commissioner Gary Quandt said Tuesday that local residents are encouraged to go to a graveside service Aug. 21 at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Grand Island for a veteran who has no relatives.

Robert Owen Scarlett, 87, of Genoa, formerly of Belgrade, died Aug. 10 at Genoa Community Hospital Long Term Care in Genoa.

Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Grand Island. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #1347.

Scarlett was a captain in the U.S. Army and served in the military from 1958 to 1962.

He was born in 1939 at St. Anne Bay, Jamaica.

Have questions about VA disability benefits? Not sure where to start, what your next step should be, or who you should talk to?

Join us this Sunday, August 16 at 2:00 PM at the VFW for a free, informal VA Disability Claims Clinic.

Important: We will not be filing claims or representing Veterans. This event is about education and connecting you with the right resources. We’ll help explain the VA claims process, answer general questions, and point Veterans and families toward VA-accredited representatives, County Veterans Service Officers (VSOs), and the VA when assistance with an actual claim is needed.

Whether you’re thinking about filing your first claim, have questions about an existing claim, or simply want to better understand your VA benefits, come visit with us.
