Chief Young was a great leader, a willing collaborator, and a tremendous asset to the Crete community. He will be sorely missed.

City of Crete departments and staff are deeply saddened by the passing yesterday, July 27, of Chief of Police Gary Young. He served the Crete Police Department honorably for 41 years and was appointed Chief in 2022. A true public servant, Young was dedicated to the safety of his community and worked hard to make sure the department and officers in his command were successful in meeting the needs of residents. His commitment to the highest ideals of law enforcement and service to the Crete community will not be forgotten.

The thoughts of City of Crete staff are with his family, friends, and fellow officers during this difficult time.

Consent means that everyone is saying "yes" to something. Here are some consent basics that everyone should be aware of:

1.) Consent is an ongoing conversation. Consent is not a check box or a dotted line that you sign giving another person free reign over what happens to you. It's an evolving conversation between you and your partner.

2.) You can change your mind. Consent can be revoked at any time. If things change or you're just not feeling it, you are allowed to say STOP.

3.) Consent is freely given. It happens between people of equal power. When we give consent, we are saying YES because we WANT TO. If we go with it because we're afraid of what will happen if we say no, that's not consent. It's coercion.

4.) Everyone is informed. Everyone must be fully conscious and cognizant of what is happening. That means being having all relevant information and a crystal clear understanding of what is happening.

El consentimiento significa que todas las personas involucradas dan su permiso. Aquí tienes algunos aspectos básicos sobre el consentimiento:

1.) El consentimiento es una conversación continua. Es un diálogo que evoluciona entre tú y tu pareja.

2.) Puedes cambiar de opinión. El consentimiento puede retirarse en cualquier momento. Tienes derecho a decir «BASTA».
