For patrons of Fairbury Rural Fire District, the Governor of Nebraska has rescinded the executive order removing authority from fire chiefs to issue burn permits that will temporarily lift the always in place burn ban. With that said, FRFD will allow burning within our district again starting on Friday, April 3rd.
If you had a 30 day permit that has not passed the 30 day since the permit was issued, you can still use that permit. If you need extension to a permit, please reach out to the chief or the person who issued you the permit and we can add an extension.
Reminder, that you have filled out that burn plan for a reason and that is a plan that you must follow at a minimum. Due to the still volatile conditions of the fuels out there, it would be good practice to add another level of security and increase the amount of resources available to you for the burn. We do have a limited amount of equipment available for use within Jefferson County that are provided by the local NWTF and PF groups. They can be checked out for a deposit and will be on a first-come first-serve basis.
As a general reminder, the State of Nebraska is always under a burn ban. The fire chief, or designee, can temporarily lift that ban by issuing a burn permit. When you obtain that permit, you sign on the line stating you will be personally responsible for anything that happens as a result of your burn. Anyone who burns outside of their plan can be financially responsible for any damages, and if anyone burns without a permit, they can, and will be, issued a citation for a Class IV misdemeanor.
As stated in our earlier post, we do still have quite a heavy fuel load and that fuel is what we call fully-cured, meaning it is basically dead fuel that can and will ignite easily and can burn with extreme behavior. Please exercise caution.
Again, we will start to allow burning within our district starting Friday, April 3rd. We will closely monitor fire behaviors and fuel conditions and will suspend permits again if we feel it is warranted.
Thank you for your cooperation, and be safe!
Chief Stewart
