DO’S
• Use a nickname, first name, or no name at all
• Take the picture in a private room or area not easily identifiable

DON’T’S
• Share your child's full name, age, school, grade, or teacher’s name
• Take your photo in front of an easily identifiable area such as in front of the school or your home where your street name and/or house number are visible

By taking these few steps, you are doing your part to help keep your kiddos safe. We look forward to seeing all those fun back to school pictures!

Tonight is the night!!!

Come on out tonight, August 4th 2026 for our annual National Night Out!! Come out and join the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Fairbury Rural Fire Department, Jefferson County Ambulance District #33, Jefferson County Emergency Management, City of Fairbury Utility Department, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission! Come meet the staff and volunteers of these agencies! There will be tours of Emergency Vehicles and Communications Trailer, drones, children identification and DNA kits, popsicles, and many other fun activities! There will also be a surprise visit from the StarCare Medical helicopter pending their call volume that night! So come on out today, August 4th, 2026 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.

🚲🛴 Summer fun is in full swing, and we're seeing more bicycles, e-bikes, and electric scooters on our streets than ever.

We've also seen far too many close calls involving young riders. Thankfully, most have ended with just a scare—but next time, we may not be so lucky.

Take a minute to check out the great safety tips below. A quick conversation with your kids today could prevent a serious crash tomorrow.

WE ARE HIRING!!

Jefferson County is accepting applications for a Dispatcher/Jailer at the 911 Center/Jail. This is a full time position with a complete county benefit package. This is a night shift position and will require nights, every other weekend and some holidays. Applicants should be 19 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma, have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions and be able to complete required training courses within the first year of employment. Starting wage is $22.31/hour with a raise after 6 month probation period is completed.
