Is your Departmen ready? It's our duty as First Responders to be ready for all hazards! Today Fairchild AFB tested an Active Shooter Base Exercise for first responders and the 92d Wing Leadership. For some it was a reminder that anything can happen just like it did in June of 1994 where a single shooter killed 4 and injured 22. It is still today one of the largest deadly active shooter incidents in Department of Defense history!

After watching our Mutual Aid partners Airway Heights Fire & Police working together as a Rescue Task Force (RTF), we were encourage to move forward and today was our second time our RTF comprised of the 92d Security Forces, Fire, Medical and EOD exercised, it went amazingly well!
I encourage all departments to move forward and build the relationships, get the funding for the proper gear, train and continue to improve... again, are you ready?

Here are some pictures of our gear and how we chose to set it up. Our new Arvada Drag Sleds Designed by our very own IMA TSgt/Arvada Firefighter Christopher Solomon and made by Kifaru International, are amazing! These are the very best sleds you can buy and only takes one person to easily move any size patient with ease!

Fast acting Medical Airmen save a life

Teamwork!
In 2014 Fire and Medics joined forces by responding together out of Fire Station #1. This joint effort to provide quicker and quality service for our community, has proven to be more than just a partnership but a family. We train, eat, do chores and respond together and have built a strong relationship and bond that makes us stronger and better Emergency Responders. We are very proud of our Medics and thankful for the constant support from our base leadership supporting our little experiment!

Congratulations Kayla & Julie!!!

ADAPT!!!
Unfortunately we don't get to dictate society or culture. We realized that we are constantly having to adapt and overcome to the multitude of responses that confront our career!
Fairchild Fire Department is working with our Security Force Squadron, Medical Group and Wing Inspection Team to be ready for any active shooter incident. We are also working alongside our mutual aid partners who have establish working Rescue Task Force (RTF) teams and have learned a lot from their training and experience.
June 1994 was a dark month in Fairchild Air Force Base's history. Former Fairchild Airmen Dean Mellberg shot 26 people killing 4 at the Base Hospital, the worse active shooter incident in Department of Defense History. We hope we never have another active shooter incident but if it should ever happen again, it is imperative that Fairchild Emergency Responders are ready to quickly mitigate and insert a combined team of Police, Fire & EMS to help with saving as many lives as possible!
DOD Fire Protection is working to get these teams trained and ready to respond!
Are your Emergency Responders ready?

Making our firefighters better firefighters by practicing one of the skills needed to give them the best possibility of survival in an unpredicted situation! This course is very physical and mentally strenuous and I applauded any of you who have been through this or any other course like it.
In the ever increasing push for certifications and higher education in our career field, which is still needed, it's time to give back to your department and get them this kind of training to potentially save their lives!

Air Force Fire & Emergency Services

Well done team Fairchild!

We are excited to announce a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) training course following NFPA 1407, Standard for Training Fire Service Rapid Intervention Crews has launched. The training is available on the Total Force Virtual Learning Center (TFVLC) http://totalforcevlc.golearnportal.org. This is not a certification course, this is a training course dedicated to the survivability of our own members!

- Did you have confidence in your RIC? Almost 70 percent said no.

- Who is coming to rescue you? Have you drilled with them? Are you confident today in their abilities?...most said no.

- Average RIC removal takes 19 minutes; Crews are going to be out of air, crews are going to be tired, and crews will need to be replaced.

This training was developed with the support of Fairchild Fire Emergency Services (FFES). The Air Force FES and FFES are dedicated to improving the training we provide to our members. Many members across the DoD have attended the Fireground Survival/Rapid Intervention Training course developed by the FFES firefighters. AF FES has done our best to capture much of the cognitive and practical applications in efforts to help reach a larger audience.

Please check out this link, this is very important to our community:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vLhmGae7Zk

Plans are in development to continue the on-site skills training for those individuals/departments that wish to push their Rapid Intervention Training program to the next level. We can maximize the training proficiency by use of the on-line cognitive learning portion followed by an on-site skills applications.

We appreciate your support and hope you find the material as valuable as we did. More information will be available as we gain approval/coordination for on-site training.
