Advanced Courses at Goodfellow have been cancelled through 11 May 2020. Any F&ES personnel currently traveling to Goodfellow for class start dates on Monday, 16 March 2020 should return home. We will monitor DoD Travel Restrictions and provide updates as necessary. More information to follow this week regarding Apprentice Course graduates.

Per SECDEF: This memorandum applies to all DoD military and civilian personnel and their families assigned to DoD installations, facilities, and surrounding areas in the United States and its territories. All DoD military personnel will stop movement while this memorandum is in effect. In addition, DoD civilian personnel and DoD family members, whose transportation is government-funded, will also stop movement. This policy applies to Permanent Change of Station (PCS) and Temporary Duty. Additionally, until the domestic travel restrictions prescribed above are lifted, DoD Components may only onboard civilian employees within the local commuting area, and military members are only authorized local leave in accordance with Service policies.

FAQs:
- All DoD service members and civilians, and their family members will stop all official travel – such as Permanent Change of Station or Temporary Duty – through May 11. Exceptions may be given for compelling cases where the travel is: (1) determined to be mission essential; (2) necessary for humanitarian reasons; or (3) warranted due to extreme hardship.

- Those who have already begun their travel may continue on to their final destination. Individuals whose TDY ends within stop movement period may return home. They should still be mindful of the health protection measures like social distancing and handwashing during their travels.

As many of you know we were honored to be designated as an accredited fire department last week. There were years of hard work across many in our organization that got us to this point. The lynch pin in ensuring this endeavor doesn’t fail is the accreditation manager. Bryant Benitez got us off on the right foot but as great people often do they are given opportunities to grow elsewhere and he took it. Step in TSgt Eric Kunzman. This guy took the baton and kept his leadership team moving in the right direction, setting deadlines, arranging meetings, ensuring travel and last minute details were handled. In the end we were successful, and while it took everyone to get us there TSgt Kunzman was key. In recognition he was awarded the “Star Performer” award from the Top 3. Thanks again TSgt Kunzman!!

It’s back!

We’re Back!

We are excited to announce the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program is back and better than ever. After eight months of downtime, the men and women providing fire and emergency services to the DoD can now view and print their professional certifications. The new database site allows real-time visibility of certifications awarded by the DoD Fire Certificate Authority. The notification center also provides training chiefs with a single location to request package reference numbers and notify us when they are conducting performance evaluations.

Key features:
- Real-time certification searches
- Secure personal information
- Single resource for training chiefs

FAQs:
Q1 – How do I access my certificates?
A1 – You can access the certification system from the AF F&ES SharePoint site, or directly here: https://go.usa.gov/xdsTR. Access requires a current Air Force Network account and valid common access card (CAC). Search for certificates using your student ID.

Q2 – I have separated/retired from the military, so how can I get copies of my certificates.
A2 – Personnel who do not have a valid common access card (CAC) can contact the AFCEC Reach Back Center (DNS: 312-523-6995, Commercial: 850-283-6995, email afcec.rbc [at] us.af.mil) to obtain your certificates.

Q3 – I work for the Army/Navy/Marines, how do I request an Air Force network account?
A3 – Personnel with a valid common access card (CAC) but do not have an Air Force network account can contact the AFCEC Reach Back Center (DNS: 312-523-6995, Commercial: 850-283-6995, email afcec.rbc [at] us.af.mil) for instructions.

Q4 – The certification search page is asking for a student ID. How do I get my student ID?
A4 – We disseminated student IDs to training chiefs who requested them. If your department has not requested them, please send a roster with the last name, first name, middle initial, and full nine-digit SSN of all personnel to the certification email account.

Q5 – Why use student IDs and not the DoD number (EDIP) assigned to the common access cards (CAC)?
A5 – Not all DoD Fire and Emergency Services personnel have common access cards (CAC) issued to them. The EDIP number is considered personally identifiable information (PII) and must be safeguarded.

Q6 – What about DoD F&ES personnel temporarily reassigned to a different AFSC/MOS?
A6 – Please contact the AFCEC Reach Back Center (DNS: 312-523-6995, Commercial: 850-283-6995, email afcec.rbc [at] us.af.mil) to obtain your certificates. Your data remains in the certification system even if you no longer provide Fire and Emergency Services for the DoD.

Q7 – My certification transcript does not show certificates with an IMPLIED in the IFSAC seal. They showed up on the old dodffcert site, why aren’t they displayed here?
A7 - The IMPLIED label is a legacy carry-over process we stopped doing years ago. Please contact the AFCEC Reach Back Center (DNS: 312-523-6995, Commercial: 850-283-6995, email afcec.rbc [at] us.af.mil) and we will correct that issue.

Q8 – Are students graduating the Louis F. Garland Fire Academy receiving their student IDs at the academy or do I request once they arrive on station?
A8 – We generate student IDs when processing the apprentice course rosters, or when processing a new employee’s first certification package. Training Chiefs should contact the AFCEC Reach Back Center to receive student IDs for newly assigned personnel.

REFERRED!
Fairchild Fire Dept. ready to meet with the Commission at the CPSE Conference in March to be an accredited fire dept.
After 6 years of rebuilding and creating our programs we finally started the process to be accredited. The process of getting to where we are at now was a lot of work but well worth it! If approved in March, Air Mobility Command (AMC) will have all of their fire departments Accredited!!! A great accomplishment that Chief Denny Heitman encouraged us all to get done. Our team all worked hard to get referred but a special thanks to both of our Accreditation Managers Frances N Bryant Benitez and Eric Kunzman for getting us through this. Our mentor Chief Ernst Piercy and our Assessment Team for really diving into our department to help us to be better!
Very excited for our community, base leadership and our department!

Happy Thanksgiving 🍁

Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas Day, Christmas Eve, and the day before Thanksgiving.

So keeping fire safety top of mind in the kitchen during this joyous but hectic time is important, especially when there’s a lot of activity and people at home.

Top 10 safety tips:

Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stove top so you can keep an eye on the food.

Stay in the home when cooking your turkey, and check on it frequently.

Keep children away from the stove. The stove will be hot and kids should stay three feet away.

Make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns.

Keep knives out of the reach of children.

Be sure electric cords from an electric knife, coffee maker, plate warmer or mixer are not dangling off the counter within easy reach of a child.

Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children — up high in a locked cabinet.

Never leave children alone in room with a lit candle.

Keep the floor clear so you don’t trip over kids, toys, pocketbooks or bags.

Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Test them by pushing the test button.

Fairchild AFB Fire Department had a great visit from Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers. We were able to share some successes and challenges with her and for her to meet our awesome Firefighters, Emergency Management Team along with our EOD Team. We highlighted the relationships that we have built with our Mutual Aid Partners in Spokane County and along with the DOD WA State Fire Chiefs Group. We also showed her a demonstration of the DOD Firefighter RIT/FGS Course. I really want to thank our department for putting this all together and our firefighters who did the demonstration. Thank you Airway Heights Fire Chief Mitch Metzger, Spokane County District #10 Fire Chief Ken Johnson, Cheney Fire Chief Tom Jenkins and City of Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer for their support and always being there! The Congresswoman has done a lot for Fairchild AFB and it was honor to show her a small part of what we do for our community on and off base! She commented to see and hear that the relationships and partnerships we have built was the way forward and she really enjoyed the demonstration!

Relationships are the foundation for success!

A Pride and Ownership story that I have to share.
As I was leaving my office on an evening this week, I found a Captain on the landing of the stairs. It was after 5 PM, and the Captain, whom I respect immensely, was polishing this historic Klaxton Bell with Brasso. The bell pictured is from one of our legacy Firehouses and since been replaced with computerized station alerting. It was restored, mounted on a plaque, and engraved with the message "Last Alarm." The bell is placed purposefully on the landing so that leaders passing it every day are reminded in a not-so-subtle fashion of their most fundamental responsibility of leadership--keeping our people safe while meeting the life-threatening demands of our Mission.

I stopped and talked to the Captain very briefly, but I didn't have to say much because in the simplest of terms--he gets it. He knows the importance of the smallest of details, whether it be 5psi in the SCBA bottle to top it off to 4500, removing every single carcinogen from the cab of the apparatus, or making sure the US flag is in its best condition at every Firehouse across the City. Details matter.

Thank you to every single firefighter that understands the importance of paying attention to the details and respecting our Mission. Industries come and go in our society. Companies thrive for a few years and burn out. Technology seems to change every day and debunks long-held beliefs that everyone thought were inalienable. The Fire Service is not a trade, an enterprise, or a corporation. It is not a specific workforce, not a particular deployment, and certainly does not make a widget. In my definition, it is ideally an activity that values life over harm and places people with the same ideals between the risk and probability of safety. The Fire Service is a passion, not a profession. Its ideals are woven throughout our history and threaded into our future.

Thank you to the Captain, ensuring that I see my reflection in the Final Alarm this week. It made me remember why I serve and gave me a reality check that made me proud of our organization.

The people in your organization are your most important resource but the right people in the right positions take your organization to the next level. These professionals are those “right” people. Congratulations to MSgt Holland, SSgt Crytzer, SrA Christiansen and Mr. Welch on earning the Fire Department’s 3rd Qtr award and being nominated for the squadron quarterly. Looking forward to good news at the next commander’s call.

Good job guys.
There is a new FB page for the Fairchild Fire Wives, I just wanted to post here to help get the word out.
I visited the fire dept this week. I received a tour of the dept. What an amazing facility, awesome equipment and friendly personnel. I wished it was that nice when i was there 79-81.
Don't be 'Sorry' you missed out on our 'Operation'! We are recruiting spouses (active duty, civilian, retired) from the 92nd CES for the 2018 Spouses Dining In.
So, I'm doing this new online training on Total Force called Rapid Intervention Crew and all these guys that I worked with 15-20 years ago keep popping up. Glad to see y'all are doing good. Great class put together as well.
Great job guys! That's what a hose bed should look like.
