🔥 LIVE FIRE TRAINING | PRIMARY SEARCHES 🔥

This morning, Engine 81, Engine 84 (ZFD), Quint 82, Battalion 81, Chiefs 80, 81, 82, 83, and the recruits from PRP spent some time conducting live-fire evolutions focused on primary search operations.

Live-fire training is demanding under normal conditions, but with Mother Nature cranking up the oven, these evolutions require even more planning and attention to firefighter safety. Our members began burning early this morning to beat the heat. We also utilize additional instructors during these training sessions so we can rotate personnel inside the structure, allowing fresh instructors to step in and help reduce the risk of heat exhaustion.

A huge THANK YOU to our Auxiliary for making sure everyone stayed hydrated, supplied, and ready to go throughout the morning. Your support plays an important role in keeping our members safe and allowing us to continue providing quality, hands-on training. A special thank you to Fern Creek Fire Department for covering the district while our members trained.

🔥 Garage Fire🔥

Just before 1600 hours today, fire crews were dispatched to a report of a garage fire in the 5700 block of New Cut Road.

Fire companies arrived shortly after dispatch to find a working fire in a detached garage. Crews deployed two 1¾-inch handlines and quickly brought the fire under control.

There were no reported injuries.

Residential Structure Fire

Last night, just before 2200 hours, fire crews were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the 10000 block of Keys Ferry Road.

Crews arrived shortly after dispatch to find a working fire involving a residential building. Primary and secondary searches were completed, confirming there were no occupants requiring rescue.

Firefighters brought the fire under control utilizing two 1¾-inch handlines.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

🚒 DID YOU KNOW? 💧

Our district still has areas where firefighters have to draft water during an emergency.

Throughout the rural areas of our district, some homeowners have installed dry hydrants in locations where public fire hydrants are too far away. These dry hydrants provide our firefighters with access to a nearby water source and allow us to use drafting operations to supply water for firefighting and help protect homes and property.

This week, our crews spent time training on several of the dry hydrants throughout our district. Training on these systems is important so our crews are prepared to quickly establish a water supply when seconds matter.

All of our engines are equipped with the proper equipment and capability to draft water—whether from a dry hydrant like the ones pictured or directly from another suitable body of water.
