Mason Police UAS Unit have been on scene today assisting Page County Fire-EMS, Page County Sheriff's Office, Page County Emergency Management, Page County Emergency Communications Center, Virginia Department of Forestry and others in Page County, Virginia with working to control the wildland fires. The use of DroneSense has allowed on scene commanders to allocate resources to keep the citizens safe.

Mason Police UAS are hosting a 3 day Introduction to UAS Operations, and day 1 focused on interior operations, an introduction to mapping, and an introduction to DroneSense. The class has multiple agencies in attendance, to include Arlington County Fire Department, The Arlington County Police Department, Herndon Police Department, Pentagon Force Protection Agency, Henrico County Division of Fire, Stafford County Fire and Rescue, Spotsylvania Sheriff, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office and others.
This week the Mason Police UAS Unit worked with The Arlington County Police Department to introduce new pilots to UAS operations. Students completed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) lanes, worked on interior operations and other UAS skills.
Over the past two days, Mason Police UAS assisted Fire Department, City of Alexandria, VA with the investigation and overhaul of a 3 alarm fire on Wheeler Avenue. Also assisting in the regional effort was City of Fairfax Fire Department, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Arlington County Fire Department, ATF, and Police Department, City of Alexandria, Virginia.

Mason Police UAS Unit with The Arlington County Police Department are providing UAS assistance at the Army Ten-Miler this morning. Live feeds of the race course are streaming on DroneSense to public safety partners and the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.
The Mason Police UAS Unit hosted a Part 107 Prep Course for Public Safety this week, which included a demo from Airworx of the latest UAS tech. the course was attended by The Arlington County Police Department, Police Department, City of Alexandria, Virginia, Fairfax County Police Department, Herndon Police Department, West Virginia State Police and several other agencies.
Today, the Mason Police UAS Unit were honored to work with the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety/ York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office and Richmond Police Department to provide UAS coverage of the funeral services for Captain Jason Ware of Chesterfield County Fire and EMS, in Urbanna Middlesex County, Virginia. The UAS coverage was streamed with DroneSense and shared with anyone wishing to pay their respects.

The Mason Police UAS Unit joined the College of Science for the second "The Science of Cars Car Show" at George Mason University, benefiting the Elissa Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund to support Mason Science graduate students pursuing their passion at George Mason University.

Mason Police UAS recently supported Virginia Law Enforcement consisting of the Page County Sheriff's Office, Rockingham County Sheriff's Office - VA and Virginia State Police. This operation resulted in the apprehension of a wanted subject and recovery of evidence.

The Mason Police UAS Unit recently assisted Police Department, City of Alexandria, Virginia with a missing person. The missing person was located safely.

On Thursday, the Mason Police UAS Unit assisted the Page County Sheriff's Office, Rockingham County Sheriff's Office - VA, Virginia State Police and other law enforcement partners with the search and apprehension of wanted homicide suspect Timothy Comer.
The unit was deployed for 9 hours, flew over 12 miles while searching, and streamed the video via DroneSense back to the unified command post to provide situational awareness to all agencies searching.
The UAS Unit was joined by the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office UAS Unit. The two units combined to cover large areas of mountainous terrain.

The UAS Unit spent the evening presenting to the George Mason University College of Education and Human Development - George Mason University GGS442/622 Drone Imaging class about the use of UAS in public safety. Students learned about mapping with Pix4D, SAR, and critical incident live streaming via DroneSense.
The unit is comprised of members of the George Mason University Police Department and the City of Fairfax Fire Department.
