FCDOT will hold a third meeting for the Oakton Safety and Congestion Study TONIGHT - Monday, Oct. 5, 7 p.m. - at Oakton High School (2900 Sutton Road, Vienna).

The study team will present survey results from the March 2026 meeting, future baseline and alternatives analysis, and active transportation recommendations. It will begin with a presentation, followed by discussion.

Limited accessible parking on the premise - you must have a placard to park there. Free parking is located at the Vienna Metro Parking Garage and it is a short walk from the Jim Scott Community Center. There will be a shuttle bus that runs from the intersection of Vaden and Saintsbury.

Spent part of National Public Lands Day at Lake Accotink, and it was great to see so many families out enjoying the day. Places like this belong to all of us, and they’re here because people keep showing up to take care of them.

Thank you to the Fairfax County Parks and Fairfax County Public Works staff and volunteers who made today happen. If you haven’t been out to a park lately, this is your sign!

September is Hunger Action Month, and I’ve spent much of it with the people who do the work to make sure our neighbors don’t go without.

At the Fairfax Food Council’s 10th anniversary, I was honored to receive an award for my work on the Council. Ten years of connecting farmers, food banks, schools and families across the county, and they’re just getting started.

At VolunteerFest and Stuff the Bus, I got to see again how our community always shows up. Meal kits packed at NOVA and bags of groceries filling up a bus at the Jim Scott Community Center.

The need is still here and it doesn’t always look like what you might think—77% of those that are food insecure work at least one job and more than 25% have a college degree or higher.

There are still ways to help this month:

➡️Our Providence District Food Drive is still going. Drop off non-perishables at the locations at the link in my bio through October 3rd.

➡️This Saturday, 9/26, join me at the Food for Others Tysons 5K & Fun Run at PenFed Plaza at Tysons Corner Center. The 5K starts at 8 AM, with a one-mile fun run/walk right after.

Tonight Jewish families across Providence District and Fairfax County—including my own—begin Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year.

Checked out the Capital One Center Art Walk this week to gear up for Celebration of the Arts this weekend. 👀

Del Geist’s ‘Cracked Ice Balance’ — a boulder balanced on a heap of steel rods — is the one that stuck with me.

Aycock’s ‘Hoop-La’ still looks like it’s in motion when you’re standing still.

Stewart’s ‘32 Corners’ actually spins.

Leighton’s ‘Echo Green’ changes with the season.

And Broth’s ‘For Which It Stands’ is brand new this year, a new take on an old symbol.
