Democrats For Life of America (DFLA)

Democrats For Life of America (DFLA) We are Democrats building a shared vision where every life is protected from womb to tomb. We believe in the core values and principles of the Democratic Party.

We believe in the fundamental worth, dignity, and equality of all people. We believe that the protection of human life is the foundation of human rights, authentic freedom, and good government. These beliefs animate our opposition to abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, embryonic stem cell research, poverty, genocide, and all other injustices that directly and indirectly threaten human life. W

e are committed to freedom and justice, security and prosperity, equality and community, and hope and progress. We are proud to be members of the party that created the New Deal, Fair Deal, and New Frontier. We share the party’s commitment to the Four Freedoms: freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from fear and want. We look to continue and perfect the party’s commitment to the most vulnerable members of our society. We believe in the legal protection of unborn life and a comprehensive, bipartisan approach to reducing the number of abortions in America and around the world. We believe in supporting women and children, strengthening families and communities, and protecting the environment. We favor eliminating unfair discrimination, improving education, and preserving the American dream for all Americans. We believe in the elimination of the death penalty, euthanasia, and embryonic stem cell research. We believe in honest, efficient government that compliments the market and civil society to build a strong economy that benefits all Americans. We believe this can be achieved through consistent growth, sensible regulation, fair taxation, and adequate wages, along with efforts to ensure the equality of opportunity, a reduction in poverty, and the existence of an effective social safety net that guarantees that all people have sufficient access to food, shelter, health care, and life’s other basic necessities. Globally, we oppose tyranny, terrorism, genocide, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, human trafficking, and all other unjust acts of violence and aggression. We support international cooperation, the spread of democracy and human rights, and the empowerment of women. In representing pro-life Democrats within the true “big tent” party, DFLA works across a broad spectrum of life ethics. We recognize that people of good faith have different approaches to these issues; therefore, we refuse to use a single issue as a “litmus test” to exclude those who would otherwise seek common ground with us on the expansion of human rights. We encourage all people committed to the common good to work together to protect human life at all of its stages.

The Child Tax Credit is a proven pro-family, pro-life policy that lifts kids out of poverty.

We joined this call for Congress to act — because being pro-life means supporting families at every stage.

Yesterday evening, Democrats in the Minnesota House blocked two pieces of legislation.

One, HF 24, would have required abortion clinics to "provide the highest standard of care to babies who survive an attempted abortion and are still alive outside of the womb."

The other, HF 25, sought to "restore funding to pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes. The facilities enjoyed bipartisan financial backing for almost two decades."

PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — A lawmaker in the House of Representatives announced plans to introduce legislation that would abolish the death penalty in the Commonwealth.

The bill, authored by Rep. Russ Diamond, a Republican from Lebanon County, would abolish the death penalty, which aligns with “pro-life” values.

The bill, authored by Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon County), would abolish the death penalty, which aligns with “pro-life” values. Diamond argued that states should not take life as punishment, even in response to the gravest of crimes. The role of the government “should not be to decide” who lives and who dies, the legislation reads.

Diamond added in his legislation that the death penalty is “inconsistent with the sanctity of life” and fails to meet the “practical and moral standards” of justice and equality. The bill outlined five specific points where it is believed the death penalty fails to meet said standards.

1. Risk of Wrongful Ex*****on -“The irreversible nature of the death penalty magnifies its tragic consequences,” Diamond wrote. Over 190 individuals nationwide have been exonerated from death row since 1973, with some coming within days of ex*****on. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, 13 individuals who had been sentenced to death in Pennsylvania were later exonerated, including one in 2024, the legislation reads.

2. Perpetuation of Violence – Capital punishment “perpetuates a cycle of violence” that devalues human life and “undermines our efforts to build a culture of life and hope.”

3. Bias and Inequities Persist – The application of the death penalty disproportionately affects people of color, those with limited financial resources, individuals with mental illness and those with intellectual disabilities, according to the bill.

4. Deterrence is a Myth – “Decades of research show no evidence that the death penalty deters crime more effectively than life imprisonment without parole,” Dimond wrote.

5. Economic and Ethical Costs – The death penalty “burdens taxpayers with excessive costs, diverting resources away from victim support and crime prevention offices.”

According to the legislation, a recent student found that since Pennsylvania enacted the death penalty in 1978, it has cost the state about $816 million dollars more than the cost of life without parole. Diamond argued that the money would be better spent on initiatives that uplift life and community well-being.

There are currently 95 people on death row in Pennsylvania, according to the Department of Corrections. Since 1978, only three people have been executed in Pa., with the last one being carried out in 1999.

Diamond ended his legislation by highlighting how 23 states and Washington, D.C. have already abolished the death penalty, saying that Pennsylvania “can and should” prioritize a consistent ethic of life in our justice system.

🚨 A Crisis We Cannot Ignore 🚨

Right now, thousands of mothers and children are risking everything—fleeing violence, poverty, and despair in search of safety.

We witnessed their journeys firsthand at the border. Families arriving with nothing but hope. Mothers carrying their babies through impossible conditions. Children seeking refuge in a world that too often turns away.

Their resilience is humbling. Their suffering is urgent. And we cannot look away.

We must meet this moment with compassion and action.

Read our firsthand account of the crisis—and how we can stand in solidarity: Mothers, Migrants, and Mercy: A Firsthand Look at the Border ⬇️

During DFLA’s trip to Juarez, we came away with a single conclusion — we need a new culture of life and encounter at the US-Mexico border.

BREAKING: The State of South Carolina has issued an ex*****on date of Friday, April 11th for Mikal Mahdi.

Today, the South Carolina Department of Corrections issued an ex*****on warrant for Mikal Mahdi. Mikal, a 14-year-old boy, was struggling with despair and thoughts of su***de. Mikal needed mental health care. Instead, he was sent to juvenile prison. While most teenagers were playing sports, going to school, and hanging out with their friends, Mikal was locked away in solitary confinement. Mikal Mahdi is a smart, creative, intellectually curious person who could have done so much more with his life. He just never got the chance. And everyone deserves a chance. Here’s what you can do to advocate for :

1. Sign this petition and share it with 3 friends: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-ex*****on-of-mikal-mahdi-in-south-carolina?source=direct_link&

3. Attend our Clemency Campaign Launch on Monday, March 17 at 7pm. The denial of birthright citizenship leaves families in limbo, just as abortion leaves lives unprotected.

La negación de la ciudadanía por nacimiento deja a las familias en el limbo, al igual que el ab**to deja vidas desprotegidas.

Our discussion at COLEF in Juarez, Mexico reinforced the need for just, humane policies that respect human dignity at all stages.

We thank South Carolina House Democrats Lucas Atkinson and Jackie 'Coach' Hayes for voting against an amendment to the state budget that would have defund local pregnancy resource centers!
