God of Creation and Hope,

Dear Lamb Center prayer partners. Please pray this prayer with us on Monday, August 31st at 9:30 am when we have morning prayer at the Lamb Center.

We are made to use our God-given creativity to cultivate the potential of the creation around us. God created the world out of nothing, and we are called to create something out of that which exists. Three years ago, we awaited approval to demolish the Hyway Motel.

We are grateful for the creative energy of our art room volunteer, Marcie, and one of our artistic guests, John, who yarn bombed the fence around the old Hyway Motel and the colorful "Building a Community of Hope" sign.

We can now see that creative energy emerging as Beacon Landing takes shape. On the inside, doors and cabinets are being installed. We can see the breathtaking beauty emerge on the outside of Beacon Landing.

We look forward to the opening in December, taking 54 people off the streets and into safety.

Continue to guide and protect our most vulnerable neighbors along this journey towards supportive housing, so they will have a safe and dry place to lay their heads at night in green pastures. We trust your desire is for housing for all our most vulnerable neighbors.

In Christ's Name we pray,
Amen

Our Workforce Development neighbors are out at Rock the Block in Old Town Square today helping get things set up for a night of live music, good food, and community fun! 🎶

It's the kind of hands-on experience that builds skills, and it's working: in FY25, 88 neighbors came through our Workforce Development Program, and 61% moved into regular employment.

Grab a chair or blanket and join the fun tonight, 6:30-9:30 PM in Old Town Square!

✨We're proud to highlight Lesley Hatch, Board Chair of The Lamb Center.

Lesley spent over 30 years in healthcare business and strategic planning before a late-career shift redirected her path. Her involvement with the Outreach Committee at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in 2012 sparked a deep interest in homelessness and affordable housing, leading her to join Good Shepherd Housing (GSH) as Chief Operating Officer. Over eight years there, she helped expand affordable housing in southeastern Fairfax County and strengthened property management and case management services for GSH residents.

Lesley has supported The Lamb Center for years through St. Stephen's, where she worships, and she's especially glad to serve on the board during this exciting season as we prepare to open Beacon Landing.

"Lesley is an all-in board chair who brings invaluable affordable housing expertise and, most importantly, a genuine heart for our guests," said Tara Ruszkowski. "We are so grateful for her wisdom, passion, and leadership."

She holds business degrees from the University of Virginia and Northwestern University.

Thank you, Lesley, for your leadership and heart for our community! 🙏

Grateful for partners like Journey For Good Foundation

We're continuing to be amazed by the generosity of Journey for Good, whose longstanding support has helped make our work at The Lamb Center possible. From day one, they've shown up for our neighbors experiencing poverty and homelessness, not just with resources, but with genuine partnership and heart.

God of Shelter and Protection,

Dear Lamb Center prayer partners. Please pray this prayer with us on Monday, August 24th at 9:30 am when we have morning prayer at the Lamb Center.

With the drenching August rainstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain, our most vulnerable neighbors cry out for safety at night. In a society where our pets enjoy hotels and spas, our most vulnerable neighbors long for shelter at nighttime.

It is breathtaking, watching the progress of the construction of Beacon Landing. The outside changes each day, and work is being done we can't see with our eyes, in each room.

The beauty of Beacon Landing is slowly emerging. We look forward to the opening in December, taking 54 people off the streets for protection.

Continue to guide and protect our most vulnerable neighbors along this journey towards supportive housing, so they will have a safe and dry place to lay their heads at night in green pastures. We trust your desire is for housing for all our most vulnerable neighbors.

In Christ's Name we pray,

Amen

"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?" — Isaiah 43:19

Soon, Beacon Landing will be home to 54 neighbors who've waited a long time for a door of their own to close behind them.

Shoutout to our friends from Mount Vernon Rehab! Inova Mount Vernon Hospital 🙌

In January 2021, Deacon Dave officiated his son and daughter-in-law's wedding in Baltimore. The very next day, he got sick, then came double vision, drooping on one side, and in May, a stroke and a mass in his brain. After brain surgery, he spent the month of July at Mount Vernon Rehab working to recover. By September, he'd ditched his walker and returned to the Lamb Center.

Today, Deacon Dave goes back to Mount Vernon Rehab, this time as a Peer Support Mentor. Last Saturday, three of the people who helped him heal, Physical Therapist Ginger Myers, Recreational Therapist Maria Bruice, and Occupational Therapist Krisztina Ware, came to serve alongside him in our laundry room.

God is so good. 🙏

"It's rewarding and meaningful to help," their team shared. "It gives added purpose to our jobs of protecting health, safety, and property throughout the region."

We're so grateful for partners like Brett, Debra, and the whole My Pest Pros team, who show up for our community in ways big and small. 💛
