We are embarking on a new initiative, called Parking Reimagined, to assess regulations for off-street parking and loading in neighborhoods and commercial areas of the county. While some changes to off-street parking and loading regulations have occurred over the years, overall rates and regulations have not been comprehensively reviewed since 1988. The Parking Reimagined project aims to create modernized parking and loading requirements for current and future land uses.

Can fairfax county zoning help with residents who have parking removed by HOAs and the result is that parking does not meet Fairfax County standards. A townhouse cluster should have 2.3 parking spaces per unit. My HOA has reduced my cluster to .76 parking spaces per unit and they will not allow me to park in clusters across the street via aggressive towning.

Why have parking standards to build if a HOA can remove them with no oversight?
So… is anybody as frustrated as I am with how things are going with the building permitting process in Fairfax County?

It’s almost a year since they closed their offices to the public and they have been asking for patience while they implemented the online process since then… but the timeframe for processing a permit is sometimes truly appalling!!!

A walk-thru permit that use to take a day can now take 2-3 weeks!! I have a permit for a deck stuck in zoning, and they are telling me that they are more than 2 weeks behind in their reviews!!

Frankly, I think they have had more than enough time to streamline the process and adapt in order to provide appropriate service during the current pandemic.

Overall, I think they are doing a below-average job… but who do we complain about this? Who oversees their service to the public?
Today was exercise day! Our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was full of county departments and agencies, state agencies, non-profits, and private sector partners to test and validate our recently updated Pre-Disaster Recovery Plan (PDRP).

The four hour discussion based exercise involved a tornado scenario requiring extensive recovery operations in the county. In addition to validating the plan, many areas of improvement were identified that will help us finetune the plan. Next step ➡️ functional exercise this spring!

We plan together, we train together! Thanks to all who participated! 👏🏼 Fairfax County Government, Fairfax County Police Department, Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax County Environment, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Fairfax County Health Department, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Volunteer Fairfax, American Red Cross, National Capital Region, Official Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce,Fairfax County Park Authority, Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, Fairfax County Transportation, Fairfax County Zoning, and Fairfax County Housing
Will you be holding zMOD community meetings in each of the 9 magisterial districts in Fairfax? With a county of 1.2 million people and 400 square miles, it would be good to hold more sessions to make sure you're reaching all interested parties. I'm in Hunter Mill District, where much of the new development is ongoing, and my community would like to hear from you. Thanks!
Fairfax County Zoning totally rules!!!
