YOU DID IT! Fairfax County has done what the Washington Redskins could not - beat Dallas. Thanks to you Fairfax County is officially #1 in the U.S. and Canada for the MDA 2016 Fill The Boot Campaign raising $521,509.05. On September 6 we sent out official notice that, although the 2016 Fill the Boot was a great success, we fell just over $3,500 short of beating Dallas and taking the number one crown for 2016. The Fairfax County Fire Fighters took it upon themselves to create a collection campaign that focused on social media, online donations and voluntary donations from fire stations. That campaign closed this past Friday at noon. In just a week and a half, not only was the $3,583.13 deficit erased, but an additional $2,267.12 was collected to seal the deal. Fairfax County's new total is $521,509.05 - as I said, $2,267.12 over Dallas.

We have been in frequent contact, over the past couple weeks, with Jim McDade, Dallas local president and MDA Coordinator. We told him what our plan was, he was all for it. He knew that this meant more money going to MDA to help find ways to slow the progression of Lou Gherig's Disease (ALS) that is currently afflicting one of his colleagues, Dallas Firefighter Tracy Beard.

Without your help, the kids would not be able to look forward to the best week of their year, MDA summer camp. MDA clients would have to go to various offices in various locations at various times, instead of the "one-stop-shop" of the MDA Clinic, where they can see most of their required medical professionals, from pulmonologists to neurologists to physical therapists to occupational therapists, all under one roof, in one day. Most of all the hundreds of families in the Washington, D.C. area and the thousands of families across the U.S. would not be able to hold out hope that their family member's neuromuscular disease will someday be cured. That's the difference you make and I thank you for it.

Thank you residents and visitors to Fairfax County. You're #1.
