We hope everyone is having an enjoyable holiday weekend so far!

We wanted to take a second to reflect on the purpose behind the holiday weekend. We wanted to share this video as a poignant reminder of what Memorial Day was established for.

We are forever grateful for those who have gone and made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our nation.

Join us in honoring fallen firefighters May 1-5!

Let's come together as a community to honor and remember the sacrifice of America's fallen firefighters. From May 1 to May 5, 2024, we invite landmarks, fire departments, community organizations, businesses, and homes across the nation to light up in red.

Why shine red lights?
Red symbolizes bravery, sacrifice, and courage—qualities embodied by our fallen firefighters. By illuminating our surroundings in red, we pay tribute to their service and honor their memory..

Visit weekend.firehero.org to learn more about the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend and watch live as we commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of our fallen firefighters.

It’s January, and that means it is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month ( ). FCSN is providing a month-long education and advocacy campaign to reduce occupational cancer risks all across North America with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).

Each week of the month focuses on a specific theme. Each theme builds upon the previous week’s theme. By the end of the month, firefighters with have the knowledge and resources to understand how firefighters are exposed to carcinogens, what happens when they are exposed, how to prevent exposures, make culture changes in their department, and assist those who are diagnosed with cancer.

Check out the weekly schedule to be prepared each week. Share this post and spread the word, knowledge, and resources, so we can eliminate cancer from the fire service together.

Today, the Senate of Virginia unanimously passed two pieces of VPFF legislation. Senate Bill 904 (Senator Bill DeSteph) allows for the compensability of anxiety and depressive disorders under workers' compensation for firefighters. Senate Bill 906 (Dick Saslaw) adds bladder and thyroid cancer to the existing list of presumptive cancers for firefighters. We appreciate these Senators for carrying our legislation and look forward to continued success as they cross over to the House of Delegates next week!
