VDOT confirmed last week the installation of another Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon, improving pedestrian safety in Reston. If you're on South Lakes Road and Tanbark Drive, remember:
1) RRFBs are flashing yellow warning lights activated by a push button.
2) When driving, anticipate people crossing the street and yield to people on foot or bicycle.
3) When walking and bicycling, make eye contact with drivers to confirm they are yielding before entering the crosswalk.

If your New Year’s resolutions include decreasing stress, getting fit, saving money or going green, then here are some transportation ideas for you in the new year:
1. Ride your bike or use bikeshare! To work, to the store, to lunch, to the library, to the park
2. Carpooling = fewer cars on the road, appreciated by Mother Nature and your fellow commuters
3. Taking transit helps increase the number of steps you take
4. Vanpool – for longer-distance commuters, rewards available
5. Telework – because it’s hard to be stressed in bunny slippers
6. Compressed work week – Turn your five-day commuting week into four
7. Commuter benefits – check with your employer about implementing commuter-friendly benefits
FCDOT wishes everyone a safe, happy and healthy 2020!
