You can spend a lifetime collecting things. Bigger homes. Fuller bank accounts. More titles. More applause. But eventually, life has a way of asking a quieter question: who were you when people needed kindness from you?

Henry Winkler’s message at Emerson College’s 2026 commencement struck a nerve because it touched something deeper than success. “You can fill your house, your garage, your bank account… but you cannot live a rich life if you don’t have empathy.” In a world that often rewards status and achievement, it was a reminder that compassion still matters. That how we treat people may say more about us than anything we own.

Maybe that is what makes wisdom stick as we grow older. The realization that success without empathy feels empty. And that a truly rich life is measured less by what we accumulate and more by the love, understanding, and humanity we leave behind.

Hey Braddock! The Braddock District Office is looking for volunteers ages 16 and up to help make the 5th Annual Braddock Bark Dog Festival a tail-wagging success for our furry friends and the families who love them!
Join us on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM at Lake Accotink Park (McLaren Sargent Pavilion) in Springfield for an afternoon full of fun, community spirit, and plenty of happy pups.
From helping with activities to welcoming guests, volunteers play a huge role in making this beloved event special for everyone.
