Due to the new restrictions Governor Northam enacted on Monday, November 16, 2020, reducing the gathering number back to the max of 25 people, the City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department have made the difficult decision to cancel the 4th Annual Outdoor Holiday Market this year.

While we are disappointed, we hope you understand that we’re taking these steps to keep everyone safe.

Join us THIS FRIDAY, Nov 20 at Sherwood Community Center for a free seminar on THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH.

Experiencing depression isn’t the same as being sad. Taking care of your mental health is as important as caring for physical conditions. Depression can actually worsen physical health conditions. Knowing the warning signs of depression can make a really difference in someone’s quality of life.

Due to Covid restrictions, the seminar is restricted to 25 attendees. Attendees must pre-register at https://apm.activecommunities.com/fairfaxcityrecdept/Activity_Search/13726

Seminar will be presented by speaker Lesley Abashian LCSW, CPM Director of Human Services, Fairfax City

Fairfax City Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with Fairfax City Public Schools in order to provide assistance for families in need in Fairfax City this holiday season.

The Parent Liaisons/School Counselors from Daniels Run, Providence Elementary have assisted in identifying these families each school. Additionally, this year, children in-need from Fairfax City Connected Care and Main Street Child Development Center will also be sponsored. These families completed a form with their information and wish list. This is a great opportunity for departments, companies, individuals or anyone who is looking to give back this season.

On October 31, City of Fairfax Police Department and the Fairfax City Parks and Recreation joined forces for the first-ever Trick or Treat Trail in Fairfax History, allowing families to β€œtrick or treat” safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dressed in their Halloween best, participants drove through a special trail adjacent to the city police station, and police and parks personnel handed out candy and other special goodies to 512 β€œboos” and β€œghouls.”

11/05/2020

I don’t know about you but we are already having Halloween withdrawals...and not just from the candy!

We saw so many awesome costumes at the Drive-Thru Trick or Treat Trail last weekend and had so much fun handing out goodies. Over 500 vehicles came by in 3 hours! Thank you everyone for making this such a big first hit! πŸŽƒπŸ«πŸ¬

The website says camps are cancelled but also says specialty camps are only cancelled for June 15-19 and June 22-26. Does this mean the specialty camps will still run in July & August? Thanks!

I have not seen an advertisement for it, so I wanted to pass it along for anyone looking for something to do this weekend: There is an indoor flea market and craft fair happening at Sherwood Community center this Saturday!! It is from 9am to 2pm. Come and see all the goodies people are bringing - maybe you'll even complete some early Christmas shopping 😁😁

Why is the splash pad closing for a private wedding, and why is the wedding planner telling us all she is turning off the water at 5 when the generic signs say that the splash pad will close from 5:30-8:15?
