I have also reached out directly to School Board Member Meren to apologize personally.

Substantive disagreements are fair to discuss, but I should have expressed those views professionally. That language does not reflect the standard I expect of myself or the level of respect owed to my colleagues and the public we serve.

I had the pleasure of serving as keynote speaker at the Brain Injury Services 22nd Annual Golf Tournament. Events like this are so important in raising awareness and support for the more than 400,000 brain injury survivors in Northern Virginia. Fairfax County is proud to partner with Brain Injury Services to ensure individuals and families have access to the care and resources they need to live independently. May is National Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the foster parents, caregivers, and child welfare professionals who support children and families across our community. This weekend, I had the honor of presenting the National Foster Care Month proclamation to Fairfax County’s 2026 Foster Parents of the Year, Melanie Vracas and Adrienne Randall. Their commitment, along with so many others, helps provide stability, care, and pathways to permanency for children in need. We are grateful for all who make this work possible.

It was exciting to take part in the groundbreaking for the Eastgate project in central Annandale. This project will bring a six-story building with 280 apartments and new ground-floor retail to the site of the former Eastgate Shopping Center, including workforce housing opportunities that will help expand affordability in our community. This is a strong example of thoughtful, community-focused investment.

We gathered today at the Fairfax County Fallen Officer Memorial to honor the law enforcement personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community. It is always an honor to speak at this solemn event and pay tribute to those who gave their lives protecting others. We are forever grateful for their service and sacrifice.

On Saturday, we celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Sully District. It was a pleasure to speak and reflect on the remarkable growth and progress the district has seen over the past three and a half decades. Sully has evolved into a vibrant, thriving community, while maintaining a strong sense of identity shaped by residents, small businesses, nonprofits, educators, first responders, and volunteers. Its continued success strengthens Fairfax County as a whole.

This event brings together older adults and community partners to share resources, discuss key issues, and strengthen support for our senior community.
