Today, we had the opportunity to share our learning on the benefit of our Public Safety Cadets program with visitors from Africa! 🌍 Through the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program, our guests are visiting locations across the country to learn about career education and innovative opportunities to get young people interested in future-looking careers.

Our Public Safety Cadets and their mentors presented on the program, sharing the benefits of recruiting young people to learn more about policing at a young age, and discussing ways that they can take these opportunities back to their communities!

Our Story

Fairfax County Public Safety Cadets is a youth run program open to young women and men ages 14 (enrolled in high school) to 20 years old with an interest in learning more about careers in the field of Law Enforcement. The program provides the opportunity to learn about law enforcement, serve the community through public service, and teaches important life skills such as leadership, public speaking, and self-confidence. Cadets receive extensive training in various techniques used by law enforcement professionals. This training includes traffic stops, building searches, bomb threat response, hostage negotiation, accident reconstruction, and arrest & search techniques. Cadets become familiar with police radio procedures, patrol areas, vehicles, equipment, and methods of patrol. In addition, Cadets are eligible to participate in the Department's ride-along program where they get to ride with a Patrol Officer and experience life through the eyes of an Officer. Cadets are given an overview of the Fairfax County Police Department as a whole and its daily operations. For more information please check out www.publicsafetycadets.org
