Over the last two training nights our members worked on a number of training topics. We had groups continue training on pumping with Engine 1, while others went to a training house in Milton to work on rapid intervention and advancing hoselines. A rapid intervention team (RIT) is a team of firefighters that would be sent into a building fire to rescue an injured firefighter.
We would like to thank Milton Fire Department for giving us the opportunity to train in their building. Training in an acquired building doesn't happen everyday, so we truly appreciate when we have the opportunity to do so.

Today's fire danger forecast issued by the state is high. The predicted fire danger has been elevated to moderate or above since Wednesday of last week. Due to this, burn permits will not be issued until the fire danger forecast comes down. Yeasterday alone there were a number of brush fires in the area, including one here in Fairfax.

The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for all of Vermont starting at 6PM on Saturday, 2/07, and going through 1PM on Sunday 2/08. They are calling for wind chills in our area between -20 and -30 degrees Fahrenheit. Frostbite could occur within 10 to 30 minutes of exposure in those temperatures. If you have to be outside please dress appropriately for the conditions.
They are also calling for 2 to 4 inches of snow tonight through midday on Saturday.

Stay safe this weekend!

Thank you Backing the Brave!

Last night, Backing the Brave had the honor of visiting the Fairfax Fire Department to share a token of appreciation.

Thank you for the quiet, steady service you give the community every day—often without recognition. We are grateful to stand behind you! 🚒❤️

Over the last two training nights, our members focused on some technical rescue training. We trained on large area search with victim removal and a man versus machine removal. In our large area search, we had to locate an injured person in the woods and remove them with our ATV. In man versus machine, we had a simulated person stuck in a snow blower and had to remove them from it.

*Warning some photos have a mannequin leg in them to simulate the injured person.*

A special thank you to FF Matt Gillilan for letting us do our large area training on his property and thank you to CCR Sales and Service for donating the snow blowers we used in our man versus machine training.

This morning we place our new Engine 1 in service! Our members worked most of the morning removing equipment from the old Engine 1 and putting it on the new one. We also took our old Engine 2, a 1997, out of service for the last time.
Over the last few months our installation committee worked hard fitting the equipment to the new engine. We also had our members training on driving and pumping the new engine to make sure they are ready to respond. In all we had over 100 hours of training and installation time on the new engine to get it ready to service the community.
